Stacy sat in the quiet meadow, watching her wolves frolic in the soft green fields. Her cat, Milquetoast, rested on the long branch of the willow tree that was near the river. She laughed as her wolf Noah splashed in the river, causing water to fling near Milquetoast. The tom cat scurried off the branch and ran to Stacy. She picked him up and put him on her lap.
His fur was pale and soft. Suddenly, the blue skies darkened. Thunder rumble and the rain poured down on them. Stacy called to her animals when she heard a wolf cry. She looked over to the river and gasped. Wink, her youngest wolf, had fallen into the river.
She ran over to the river and grabbed his collar. She began to pull him out of the water, then the current got stronger. Wink slipped from her grasp and plunged back into the cold waters. Stacy shouted his name, but he didn't resurface. Wink was gone...
Stacy woke up with a gasp. She looked around the room. It was more quiet than usual. She got out of bed and headed to the kitchen. A small kitten was laying on the counter.
He opened his eyes and gave a small meow. "Hey Pip. Just getting some milk. I had a bad dream." She poured herself a glass of milk and drank it quickly. She went over to the wolf den and peered inside. All her wolves were sleeping peacefully, except Wink. He paced around the room with his tail between his legs.
"Wink," Stacy whispered. Wink turned his head to her and wagged his tail. He bounded towards her and licked her face. Stacy scratched behind his ear, "Hey buddy. Another bad dream?" Wink let out a small whine.
"Yeah, me too." Suddenly, there was a loud explosion, waking up the rest of the wolves. The vault alarms were blaring loudly. Stacy raced to her computer, Wink following close behind. She checked the security cameras. She let out a gasp, "Someone stole the Emerald Wolf Statue!" Loud growling and barking came from the living room.
Stacy and Wink ran into the living room. A hooded figure was backing away slowly from the snarling wolves. "Hey!" The thief looked at Stacy and turned to run, but Basil was quicker. The tan she-wolf lunged and grabbed part of the thief's cloak. The fabric ripped and the thief ran.
White fur shot past Stacy. It was Wink. He sprinted after the thief. Stacy shouted, "Wink, NO!" but it was too late. They disappeared into the mist and fog. Stacy walked over to the explosion in the wall.
She picked up the torn fabric and turned to her wolves, "We have to get Wink back, and the statue, and I know just the person who can help." Everest growled, clearing understanding who she was mentioning. Stacy sighed, "I know boy, but he is the only person who can help." She turned back to the hole, looking out into the fog and said, "Wolves, follow me. We're going to find Graser."
