Chapter 6: Speak My Language

Peter and Cindy walked inside the school and Cindy went to her locker. Peter was opening his locker next to hers and says "So, how is Korea?" Cindy shrugged and says "It's...a pleasant place, but their things are so expensive." Peter says "How expensive?" Cindy says "Well, say about a hundred to two hundred grand at least where I live in the high estates." Peter whistled and says "Whoa. That's a lot of money. I can't even pay my own scholarship with low cut money I have." Cindy says "How much money you have?" Peter exhaled and says "Well...I got eight bucks." Cindy sucked her teeth and says "Geez, that's not going to help pay it at all." She digged in her binder and gave him three twenties. Peter says "Holy crap. Sixty bucks? I can't keep this." Peter closed his locker and went next to Cindy looking worried. "Are you sure?" Cindy tilted her head and says "It's the least I can do for you since you're struggling to pay your scholarship. Just take it. Okay?" Peter looked into her hazel eyes and smiled. "I...thank you, Cindy." Cindy smiled and says "You're welcome, Peter." Peter slowly touched her fingertips and Cindy looked up towards him until Ned came to his locker. "Hey, guys. Sorry I'm late and not seeing you two on the bus." Peter lets go and Cindy cleared her throat. Peter faced Ned and says "Ned, we've been worried about you. What happened?" Cindy grabbed her books and closed her locker while Ned says "I had to go to the dentist for a cleansing, but I'm back now." Cindy says "That's good. Dental hygiene is very important." Ned says "I'll keep that on a sticky note. Oh, and uh...happy birthday, Peter." He gave him a wrapped up box. Cindy was surprised and her thoughts came up. "Wait, I didn't know that it was Peter's birthday and I didn't have time to get him a present. What kind of a friend am I? Before I go to lunch, I'll go by someplace and get him something or maybe something for Spider-Man." Peter smiled and says "Wow, thanks, Ned. What is it?" Ned says "I'll let you open it and find out, but I'm not telling you." Peter looked sideways and says "Okay...then. We better head off to class now. Our teachers are going to be upset if we don't hurry." Ned says "Yeah...good point." The bell then rings and they all hurried to their classrooms.

After three hours of studying and boring classwork, Ned, Peter and Cindy got out of the classroom. Ned smiled and says "Okay, lady and gentlemen, it's time for lunch!" Peter says "Good, because I am hungry." Ned and Peter began walking and Cindy stopped in the middle of the hallway. "Um, guys. I'm basically skipping lunch today and I'm not really that hungry." Ned turned around and says "What? How come?" Cindy says "I promised my little brother that I would go see him at recess, so..." Peter was concerned and says "Cindy, are you...sure you don't want to have lunch?" Cindy says "Save me a muffin, okay? Gotta run." She quickly jogged out of the school and her thoughts were in her head. 'Close call there, Cin.' Ned saw her left and patted on Peter's shoulder. "Yeah...she's definitely not a keeper, Pete. You need to find a more decent girlfriend." Peter looked at Ned and says "Come on, dude. She's perfectly fine and....I like her." Ned says "Dude, are you serious? No wonder you were so giddy over her!" Peter shook his head while walking into the cafeteria and says "Oh, shut up and let's go eat some food already." Ned followed Peter and Cindy ran outside and says "Birthday gift. Birthday gift. What can I give him for his birthday? Think, think, Cindy." She looked around and saw appliance stores. "Mm..." She shook her head and kept walking then saw a drone that looks like a spider with eight eyes. (which are mini cameras) Her eyes sparkled like a pair of anime eyes and says "That's perfect." She then looked down and saw the price. It was a hundred grand for a cute little drone. Cindy frowned and her thoughts says "And I thought that Korean things were expensive, but this is way too much to handle!" Cindy says "Aw man. How in the world will I get one hundred grand in one day just to get my friend a birthday present?" She exhaled and came up with an idea: The Lemonade Technique. She was in front of the store with a lemonade stand and says "Lemonade! Come and get your freshly squeezed cold lemonade here! Only forty bucks!" People were passing by and a female teenager came to the stand. "Hello, you selling lemonade?" Cindy smiled and says "Yes, I am. Only forty bucks, please." The teenager says "Forty bucks? That's not bad at all! I'm gonna need every single drop of the lemonade. About....twenty-five cups." Cindy says "Wow, that's a lot of cups. Why do you need so much?" The teenager crossed her arms and says "My little sister is having a surprise birthday party and I need refreshments like right now!" Cindy tapped her fingers on the stand and says "Sure...but you will have to give me forty bucks each, I'm afraid." The girl took out wads of cash and says "Here, take all my twenties!" She picks up the tray and walked away. Cindy was shocked that the girl gave her a lot of money. "Holy macaroni. This is a lot of cash." She counted the money and it was exactly the amount of the drone. "Time to get his present!" She was very happy as she went inside the store and paid for the drone.
