[A/N: This is just a random little short story about Clementine from TWDG- it will show how she has truly changed from before the apocolypse and all that. Obviously this isn't canon, just a fan fiction. I do not own The Walking Dead Game or the characters! Thanks~ ^^]
Clementine was staring at a blank wall, lost in her thougts. Today was a slow day as the group she traveled with had found a place to hold up for a day while they traveled to a place they had hoped would be safer and possibly hold more supplies. However, Clementine didn't feel like socializing with the others. She actually had a lot on her mind today...
'Hey, Mom!' A younger Clementine smiled to an older woman who appeared to be Clementine's mother. The woman grinned down to her daughter and spoke in a sweet tone, 'Good morning, Clementine! You're always cheerful in the morning!' Clementine giggled and nodded, looking out the door.
'I'm excited,' Clementine began, 'It's my first day of school.' Clementine even looked all ready and prepared to get out the door. She had a little backback that fit perfectly on her back and she even carried a small lunchbox. Clementine's mother simply laughed and patted her childs head, allowing Clementine to run out the door to catch her bus.
That memory actually hurt Clementine, it was one that she had vividly of her family. Most of the memories she still had were long gone. They were replaced with the flesh eating walkers, or the people she met on her journey.
Especially Lee... Clementine missed Lee every single day, and the pain of losing him still brought tears to her eyes every single day. She had trusted him, she viewed him like a father, and losing Lee is really what made her the kind of person she is now. He taught her how to use a gun, how to be stronger... Though she did cry when he died, she still wanted to live. Lee wanted her to survive because he did love and care for her, and Clementine wasn't going to throw that right back at his face. She loved him too, even if that was the last words she would ever say to him.
Clementine did miss being such a happy and bubbly girl. It was sad that she had lost her innocence and turned into somewhat of a cold and distant person, but Clementine knew that she only did this because of what she went through. In fact, she was an emotional and mental wreck. She had recently lost Sarah too. Clementine thought back on meeting Sarah- how funny it was. She was stealing medical supplies and Sarah surprisingly agreed to help her. Sarah wore those thick red glasses all the time, but right now, Clementine wish for nothing but to see her friend again. Clementine didn't even want to be friends with Sarah at first, but she slowly grew closer to her because mentally Clementine needed a friend.
But every day, the vivid image of Sarah being killed and eaten alive still haunts her. It wasn't Sarah's time and Clementine knew that. Why did she have to leave when Clementine needed her most? Why did she give up? Carlos gave up so much for Sarah's life too, and Clementine only wished Sarah could see that. Lee gave up everything for Clementine and she sure as hell wasn't giving up.
But Sarah was different. Mentally, Sarah was weak. Anyone could see that as it was completely obvious. But Clementine didn't want to give up on Sarah. She didn't want to lose anyone else, the feeling was so famliar to her now. Some days, Clementine even expected to wake up and see Lee or Sarah again. Alas, she would realize that was merely dreaming of them and the reality was still that they were gone forever.
Closing her eyes gently, Clementine thought of Rebecca and her child. At first, Clementine hated Rebecca. She seemed rude and uncaring, but Clementine soon came around to understand why Rebecca acted the way she did, and Clementine did not need to stoop to the levels of acting rude in return. In fact, Clementine felt extremly bad for Rebecca. Being pregnant and losing your husband could make anyone go insane, but the woman remained composed. Well- somewhat. Either way, Rebecca did care for Clementine, but Clementine was reluctant to get closer to her. It was the fear of loss that paralyzed the young girl.
Now everyone had to take care of and look after the child because Rebecca too had perished. Death just seemed to linger right next to Clementine. However, it only taunted at the young girl. It toyed with her emotions and changed her into someone she could never imagine herself to be.
Though, what Clementine went through would change anyone. In some ways, Clementine was a better person. She was stronger, and she was able to accept pain and death. In other ways, she had grown some not so good characteristics. She was now bitter to some people, and though she may have looked like an innocent child, it would appear to only be a mask. At least most people did not treat her like a kid. They did in fact treat her as an equal.
Clementine's mind drifted off to Kenny, the man who she cared so much about. He was close with Lee too, and he shared the pain of his loss as well as Clementine did. However, Clementine was not shocked as his mental breakdown. The man had lost his son, his wife, his new lover, his friends... Everyone. Kenny was alone, more so than Clementine. Having a mental breakdown like he did was not shocking at all. Though his words hurt and stung, Clementine took what he said as just words. He had to vent to someone, and he rarely showed his true feelings. You can only hide them for so long, and Kenny was past that point.
Though, it was times like this that Clementine missed just being a kid. She truly did miss drawing pictures and singing or dancing. It's not like she was a completely different person, deep down she was still sweet little Clem who did truly care for everyone. A little naive, but not stupid. Though she didn't think about him much anymore, she missed Ben. He was rather shy, and skittish, but his death hurt Clementine- a lot. She liked to bug him a lot because he was the only one other than Duck who was anywhere near her age. No doubt she missed Duck. Though, when she thought of him, she would laugh a little. He was goofy and a little dumb, but he was a good kid. She would often laugh about how he would also bug Lee, and how he idolized Lee so much. But she also remembered how Duck had got her to taste a salt lick- which of course, tasted gross.
Clementine had shook her head then and decided to stop thinking about all this. She didn't want to start crying again after all. It was still early, but she thought that she would at least try to get a little more sleep. This was likely one of the only chances she would get.
Drifting off to sleep, Clementine was having another dream of the past. She saw Lee, Carley, Doug, Larry, Doug, Lilly, and Katjaa. Clementine was just looking around the abandoned store, examining many of the scattered items that had little value now, and also laughing at Carley's limited knowledge of electronics.
Lee would occasionally walk over to Clementine, telling her that he was checking up on her and then go back to helping the others. Clementine was so happy about Lee being concerned about her, and she was also happy that she had such a cool group.
She would sit and talk with Duck, the two would discuss who they thought was cool or they would say who they viewed as jerks. No one really seperated the two as they seemed rather close, and Duck needed Clementine's support more than she might have realized.
Eventually, everyone's probems had basically been solved. Lee walked over to Clementine again and gave her a gentle smile, 'Hey-' his voice was suddenly cut off, the dream disipating to nothing.
"Sweet pea, you ready to eat before we hit the road?" Clementine heard that distant but familiar voice that had jolted her from her dream. Her eyes gently scanned over to see Kenny, who stood at the doorway awaiting her answer. Clementine stood up slowly and smiled a little, "Y...Yeah..." She walked with Kenny, tears slowly brimming in her eyes. She didn't question why Kenny had called her sweet pea, but for a split second she could have sworn she saw Lee right there, standing there with his normal smile.
"Hey, Kenny," Clementine began, looking up to Kenny who was fixing his shirt. He then turned to look down at Clementine and blinked, "Hmm, what is it, Clem?" The young girl wiped away her tears quickly as if she was embarassed to be crying and chuckled while speaking to Kenny, "Thank you."
