Prison Nightmare

"Here is your challenge," the voice said, "Amongst these cells is a key to the exit. The two of you will choose a cell each out of the 26 here. Each prison room has a time limit of 2 minutes before you are kicked out. To return to a previous room, a different room must be visited first."

"So we have to hurry up to find the key," Donut.

"I won't lose," Nickel grumbled.

"Well then, good luck."

Donut quickly rushed to the 3rd cell while Nickel entered the 12th.

Donut: I have to survive this. I want to uncover the truth of this whole city. I can't die now.

Nickel: I have a good guess on who voted me and I'm not dying until I see them face-to-face.

"Damn it," Nickel grumbled as he looked around the cell. He looked under the worn out bed and checked the old desk. No key was in sight.

Meanwhile, Donut was also having no success in finding a key. Once he looked everywhere, he stopped searching and looked outside the small barred opening above on the back wall.

"I wonder if people are watching this?" he wondered.

Then, the cell door opened and that was his cue to leave.

As he ran across the prison, Nickel harshly bumped into him as he ran by.

Donut frowned as he entered the cell beside him. A part of him wasn't too focused on finding the key despite the obvious danger of death.

He was more dedicated to finding any clues about the city. This was a prison, surely there are a few writings of previous crazed inmates. They could give clues to the history of the city. Maybe some inmates were innocents who were unfortunate enough to be in the city at the worst time.

He sighed as he closed the drawer of the desk. There was a better chance they cleaned the place up for any loose evidence but it was worth a chance.

"Where is it?!" Nickel growled as he slammed the desk drawer shut.

He wouldn't like to admit it, but Nickel was terrified, desperate, and a complete idiot.

Who knew not helping once would get people to believe you're better off dead?

A part of him (or most of him) didn't want to believe he deserved to die just because he didn't help.

He moved the desk with a strong push: nothing but dust and cobwebs.

"Donut can't possibly find it this soon, right?"

"Nothing of usefulness," Donut sighed. He looked around but failed to find anything. He now had to focus on finishing the challenge. Any more wasted time was fatal.

He left the cell before entering the one to the left.

He frowned as his eyes wandered around the dark and dusty room.

"Let's hope I don't miss the key among the dust."

Unbeknownst to him, he didn't notice the slight golden glint behind him as he entered.

"Gods, what's even going on?" Firey grumbled. They were all waiting in the room, growing more and more anxious as the minutes went by.

"Is there really no way for them to both survive?" Liy said somberly.

"I doubt it's possible," Lollipop said, shaking her head.
