The cold morning wind swept through the forest, a gust of wind finding its way into Kenna's hiding spot. Shivering from the cold, she slightly turns to her side and curls up a little, trying to get warm. Suddenly, a small tremor could be felt through the tree, snapping her eyes open she sat up. Another tremor vibrated through the tree, but this time it felt closer, causing her to bump her arm into the side of the tree. Wincing, she held onto her broken arm and tried to steady herself before poking her head out of the tree.
Quickly scanning her surroundings she could see nothing out of the ordinary, but off in the distance, a flash of red appeared and disappeared within moments. Curious, she carefully made her way down the trees trunk, jumping to the ground when she was only a few feet from it, muddy water splashed around her feet as she landed. Stealthily, she ran through the forest in search for the red thing she saw.
Coming to a halt, she finds a huge looking track that she was unfamiliar with. What could have made this? It's definitely not an animal, maybe a man made machine perhaps? She questioned to herself. Forcing herself to focus, she carefully walked around the giant print and continued her search. After a few moments of running, she stumbled on a trail of the same tracks as before.
A smile grew on her face as she followed the tracks, after a few minutes of running the trail lead her to a field covered in long grass and a variety of flowers, the grass bending to the wind.
Admiring the sight, she subconsciously began to whistle and chirp, closing her eyes and slowly forming a song as she did so, the sound imitating that of birds singing. Forgetting about the reason she was in the field, she continued to chirp and whistle, completely relaxed and content with her surroundings. Her singing abruptly stopped with the sound of a tree branch snapping in the distance. Snapping her eyes open, she quickly glanced in the direction of the sound, her eyes widening at the sight before her.
Standing before her was a tall red and blue robot with chrome accents. It's round azure blue eyes focused on her, if she blinked she would've missed the slight widening of its eyes before they returned to normal. Looking over the machine, she could see that it had a 'muscular' build, many scratches and dents covered its body. She didn't dare to break eye contact as she focused on its face once more, she had no idea if this thing was dangerous or what it was capable of.
She took a defensive stance, being careful of her injured arm. She slowly expanded her wings, her feathers resembling that of a hawks. The robots eyes again widened slightly at the sight of the girl, but then it's gaze went toward her broken arm. Taking notice of her injuries and the state she was in, he knelt down to be a little closer to her level, although that didn't change much. Startled by the sudden movement, she flapped her wings and jumped back a few feet. Not wanting the being to get too close.
"Stay back! Don't come any closer!" Kenna warned as her finger nails became claws. Once again taking a defensive stance, she watched the robots movements. It didn't seem hostile, but with everything she's been through, she couldn't let her guard down.
"Do not worry, I will not harm you." The robot calmly stated as he cautiously moved forward. A growl escaped the girl as her golden eyes shined, her claws ready to strike.
"Don't. Come. Any. Closer." She warned once more as she bared her canines. The robotic being stopped moving and kept his distance, but his gaze never left her injuries.
"Please, allow me to help you. If your injuries aren't treated properly they could get severely worse." He stated, concern laced in his voice.
"I don't know you, how can I trust you?" She asked. A distrustful look on her face. They sat in silence, neither one of them saying a word as they kept their distance.
"I am Optimus Prime."
"What?" Kenna asked confused.
"My name is Optimus Prime. Do you have a designation?" He asked. A surprised look formed on her face at the question. Why would he want to know my name? No one's ever cared before, maybe it's a trick...
"Um, my... my name's not important..." She replied quietly. She began to realize that this robo- Optimus Prime, was no threat to her. But that didn't mean she'd let her guard down or allow herself to trust him. She let her claws reform into her nails once more and sat on the ground, allowing herself to relax a little.
"Do you not have a name?"
"Of course I do, but my name isn't important," she said as she pulled her knees over her chest. "I'm not important." She whispered while laying her head on her knees. Even though she mostly whispered to herself, the Prime could still hear what she had said. His eyes softened at her words, he knew he couldn't leave her here like this but he didn't want to force her either.
"Please know that I do not wish to harm you, I want to help you." He said sincerely.
"Why do you want to help me so badly? You don't even know me." She asked slightly annoyed. "Do you even know anything about the human body?"
"No, I regret to say that I do not. But there is a human at my base that can look you over, I'm sure she could treat your injuries." He answered her in a reassuring tone. Kenna looked up at him from where she was sitting and huffed in defeat.
"You're not gonna leave me alone until I do are you?"
"No." He said matter- of- factly. Groaning, she got on her feet and walked towards him. He smiled ever so slightly before opening his hand and placing it on the ground for her to step on.
Carefully, he lifted her up and replaced that small smile with a expressionless look before placing his fingers to the side of his head. "Ratchet, I need a bridge. Prepare the Med Bay and notify Nurse Darby that we'll need her assistance."
"::Nurse Darby? Did Miko follow you into the Ground Bridge?::" Rachet asked, slightly annoyed at the girls recklessness.
"No, I believe that Miko is in an after school class called 'detention'. I will explain the situation when I arrive." He answered as a swirling vortex appeared out of know where in front of them. Green, blue, pink and white made up the swirling portal before them. She was a little weary, but quickly got rid of the feeling as they approached the portal.
Although Kenna didn't fully trust this robotic being, she didn't want to be referred to as 'human' all the time. After carefully thinking it over, she brought her knees against her chest once more and huffed.
"Kenna."
"Pardon?" A confused Optimus asked.
"My name... Is Kenna." She repeated blankly, her gaze never leaving the portal. Even though she didn't see it, Optimus slightly smiled before walking into the ground bridge and disappearing from sight.
