Going through the portal was a bad idea, Kenna felt nauseous as they exited the vortex and was trying her best not to lose what little food remained in her stomach. "Ugh, what was that thing? I think I'm going to be sick." She asked as a gagging sound escaped her, her hand quickly covered her mouth to stop herself from vomiting.
"That was our Ground Bridge, it is what we use to get around on your planet." He explained. Kenna uncovered her mouth and took a few deep breaths before scanning her surroundings.
Looking around she saw a stairway that led to a small platform. To the left she noticed a small living area that had a couch, a small table, a TV, a mini fridge and a weird device that was hooked into the television with two oddly shaped remotes.
There were also strange looking screens that displayed unfamiliar markings on her right. In front of those screens stood a orange and white robot that was typing furiously on the keyboard, a frustrated look on its face. "Blasted Earth tech!" He shouted, before throwing his hands in the air in defeat.
"Ratchet, did you contact Nurse Darby?" Optimus asked as he walked towards his friend.
"Yes, Arcee has already been informed to retrieve her when she picks up Jack." He replied before turning around to look at his leader, only to stop in his tracks to stare at the human who was in his grasp. "By the AllSpark..." He said breathlessly. "Optimus, is she the reason you requested Nurse Darby?"
"Yes, her name is Kenna, she needs medical assistance. With her current appearance, I don't think it would be a wise idea to bring her to a hospital." He stated as he walked over to the platform and carefully placed his hand down for her to climb off. Ratchet followed his leader and stood beside him as he examined the girl, his eyes quickly looking her over before pulling out his scanner.
Kenna closed her eyes at the sudden beam of light before readjusting them, a weird tingling sensation spread throughout her body as he scanned her. Ratchets eyes widened in surprise as he looked over the results of the scan, lifting his gaze back to her before scanning her once more. "Could you stop doing that? It feels weird." She asked annoyed. Ratchet seemed to just ignore her as he once again examined the results.
"How can this be?" He asked mostly to himself as he wandered to the group of strange screens.
"What is it that you have found?" Asked the prime as he stood by the medic.
"Her skeletal structure is that of an ordinary humans, but upon closer examination, her bones seem to be... hollow." He explained as the scan of Kenna appeared on the screen before them. "Not only are her bones hollow, her extra limbs also appear to be attached to her body, as if she was born with them."
"That's because I was born with them. Well, in a sense anyway." Kenna stated as she stood by the metal railing lining the platform, a hand on her hip.
"That's not possible. Humans are not born with such abnormalities." The medic stated bluntly.
"Who ever said I got these abnormalities naturally!" She spat, anger now clearly showing, her knuckles turning white as she tightly gripped the railing with her good hand. Closing her eyes, she tried to calm herself and loosened her grip on the railing. "Or that I even wanted them..." She said quieter than before and slumped onto the floor, bringing her knees up to her chest and laying her head on them. Her eyes drifting to the floor, staring at nothing in particular.
Taken aback by the sudden outburst, Ratchet was at a loss for words or of what to do. Optimus, seeing the distress on his friends face, laid a hand on his shoulder before walking towards Kenna. "Kenna, could you explain what you meant by not getting your extra limbs naturally?" He asked, his tone soft and gentle.
The girl moved her golden eyes towards the bot, examining his face before looking back at the floor. "No."
Optimus, not wanting to push her any further, just slightly nodded and walked back towards his medic. "Don't worry, I'm sure that in time she will bring herself to tell what had happened to her." He reassured.
As if on queue the sound of engines rang throughout the base, moments later a black and yellow muscle car, an army green truck and a blue motorcycle with pink accents drove in. Skidding to a stop before letting their passengers off and transforming into three more robotic beings. Curious, Kenna lifted her head from her knees and looked towards the group below.
She was a little surprised to see more people, two of which looked to be around her age and the younger one around the age of twelve or so. Looking past the other three people, she could only guess that the young woman was Nurse Darby. Not wanting to be spotted she quietly got up and began looking for someplace to hide. I-I can't trust these people, they could be with them.
"Kenna? Is there somewhere you need to be?" Kenna froze where she stood and slowly turned around to look at the prime.
"Optimus, I-I can't-" She began to say, her eyes not making contact with the primes.
"Who's Kenna?" A curious voice yelled from the stairway as she made her way to the Prime. Kenna, seeing the others quickly approach, began to panic. Fear began to overcome her as her senses were heightened.
Her breathing quickened as they drew closer, not knowing what else to do she slowly began to back up, trying to get further away from the approaching group. Her wings began to unfurl a bit as she tried to make herself more intimidating. The group froze, gasping at the sight before them. Her eyes slightly glowed in warning as she slowly took a defensive stance.
Noticing her stance from before, Optimus slowly approached the girl, her pointed ears twitched at the movement. The prime lifted his hand, motioning for them to stay where they were and set his gaze back on Kenna. "They will not harm you Kenna, you can trust them." He reassured, his voice once again soft and gentle.
She tore her gaze away from the group of people and looked at Optimus, his optics shown that of concern and worry. Why do you have to look at me like that? She thought to herself. Huffing, she tried her best to relax and folded her wings to her sides. Then focused on the group of people in front of her, taking a deep breath she slightly waved. "Hi..."
A young girl with black hair and pink highlights excitedly walked up towards Kenna, a smile on her face. "Hi! I'm Miko. Those wings are so awesome! Can you actually fly? How fast can you go? Have you met the other Autobots?" Miko asked fairly quickly.
"Whoa Miko, how about we don't bombard her with a thousand questions." A black haired boy said as he stood beside her, "Hi I'm Jack Darby and this is my mother June." He introduced as he gestured to his mother who waved.
"And I'm Raphael Esquivel but you can call me Raf." A boy with brown spiked hair and glasses happily introduced.
"Uh, it's nice to meet you." Kenna said shyly as she rubbed the back of her head. Nurse Darby, as if finally noticing the state she was in, gasped and rushed to Kenna to examine her wounds.
"Jack, go grab my medical bag." She ordered. Jack nodded and quickly ran down the stairs to retrieve the bag. "Kenna may I look at your arm?"
Kenna nodded and allowed her to remove the sling she had made. June carefully examined her arm, it was completely covered in bruises and was severely swollen. "Ratchet, do you have any-"
"Yes, yes here." He interrupted as he handed her a tablet sized data pad that had Kenna's body scans. June quickly scrolled through the information and handed it back to Ratchet before rummaging through her medical bag. After gathering what she needed, she motioned for Kenna to take a seat.
"Well, it looks like you definitely broke your arm Kenna, but it's not bad enough that I need to reset it, you'll still need a cast for it to heal properly though." She explained as she started forming a cast around her arm, trying her best to be as gentle as possible. After a few minutes, she finished the cast and began putting her medical supplies away. "It will take eight to twelve weeks for it to fully heal, so take it easy." Nurse Darby said as she held out a orange and white bottle.
Kenna immediately recognized the bottle and shook her head, refusing to take the bottle. "Thanks, but I don't want those."
"Are you sure? It'll help with the pain."
"Yes, I'm sure Nurse Darby." Kenna said as she stood back up, grabbing her handmade sling before looking back at the nurse. "So, how long will it take for this to harden?"
"Twenty to thirty minutes, try not to set it on anything until it hardens completely." She instructed as she lifted her medical bag and turned to walk down the stairway. "I've got to get back to work, I'm sure they're wondering where I went off to. It was nice to meet you Kenna." She said as she waved good bye.
Kenna slightly waved back as the nurse walked through the ground bridge portal. Lowering herself back to the ground and pulling her knees to her chest, she began to examine her cast. Slightly poking it, she was surprised to feel that it was already hardening
"So, never had a cast before?" Miko asked as she sat beside her. Kenna turned her head slightly to look at her, and shook her head in response. "You've never broken anything before?" Miko asked curiously.
"No, I have. Multiple times. I've had open compound fractures, transverse fractures, etc. So, this isn't nearly as bad as that, but this is the first time I've ever received any medical care." Kenna quietly explained as she laid her head on her knees, painful memories flooding her mind. She started tracing her finger on the floor, drawing small circles as she tried to distract herself from her horrid memories.
Miko noticed the sorrow and pain that showed on Kenna's features. A smile formed on the Japanese girl's face as an idea came to mind. Miko quickly stood up and walked in front of Kenna, her hand out stretched to her. Kenna slightly peered up at her, then at the hand that was reaching for her.
"Come on! Wanna play some games?" She excitedly asked, a smile on her face.
"G-games? What is that?" Kenna asked curiously. Miko's eyes grew to the size of saucers as she stared down at the feathered girl.
"You've never played a game?"
"No."
"Like ever?" Miko asked completely shocked.
"No."
"Well that's going to change now!" Miko reached for Kenna's hand and pulled her up on her feet. Dragging her to the couch where Raf and Jack were intensely focusing on the TV screen. The screen had two cars racing side by side, the left car in the lead. She watched as the boys furiously tapped the buttons on the two weird looking remotes, their tongues slightly sticking out of the side of their mouths in concentration.
"Come on, come on! I will not lose to you again Raf!" Jack exclaimed as he got in the lead, leaning forward towards the screen. Raf smiled and used his car to hit the bottom end of Jack's car, spinning it out of control and crossing the finish line just as Jack's car crashed.
"Yes!"
"No! I was winning! Where did you learn to do that?" Jack asked.
"Bee taught me." Raf replied with a smile. The boys both laughed and placed their controllers on the table. Miko immediately snatched the controllers and held one out for Kenna.
"Lets get our game on!"
