Part One

Dear friend,

It's the start of the year. Last night mum told me that we were moving to England. I'm Australian, but we've moved from there to America, Germany, Ireland and now the UK. I guess you can say I'm used to waking up in different countries a lot. There is no real struggle about it.

I don't want to move. I like it here. I have a boyfriend, and a spot on the sports team, and lots of friends. I hate goodbyes, but lately it's all I'm ever saying.

Riley and I have been dating for nine months. He always tells me I can't leave him because if I do, I will get hurt. If in your head, you are asking what? Then you must know about Riley. Riley and I met at a party when I first moved to Ireland. He is always drunk and it's not pretty. Because of that, his actions towards me are bad. I tried to call the cops on him but he threatened to kill me. I'm scared.

Then there are my friends, Mel, Holly and Lachlan. They're on my football team and we have most classes together. They invite me to their houses a lot and smoke with Lachlan's brother Will. We know we shouldn't, but we're teenagers and we all have something that takes the pain away. And for us, it's getting high.

Now if you're wondering about home, and maybe you are, I never really liked home. Dad hits mum a lot and dad is just as stoned as I am, so mum doesn't really care. I have a big brother. He's the reason we're all leaving to England. He is graduating college and mum wanted to live there.

We're leaving in three days, so I'm scared of Riley. While I write this I am with Will and he is selling us some good stuff. We're in his garage. I've already told Mel, Lachlan, Will and Holly I'm leaving which is why we are getting baked on a Friday night because it is the last time I'll ever see them again.

It's ten thirty when I get home and dad asks me for some of the stuff I got so I give him some and then I go to bed. I sleep through most of Saturday.
