Warren put some water in the kettle and turned on the stove. As he waited for the water to boil, he couldn't help but think about Max. He had been crushing on her for a while now, but he never had the courage to tell her. He was just happy to be around her and help her whenever she needed it.
The sound of the kettle whistling brought him back to reality. He poured the hot water into the mug and added the instant coffee. He then grabbed a couple of cookies from the vending machine on his way back and put them on a plate.
He walked back to his dorm and saw Max sitting on his bed, wearing his oversized Batman pyjama pants and his plain black tee. She looked cute in them, and Warren couldn't help but smile.
"Here you go," he handed her the coffee and the plate of cookies. "Sorry, it's instant coffee, we don't have a coffee maker."
"It's fine, Warren. Thank you so much for this. You're a lifesaver," Max took a sip of the coffee and let out a satisfied sigh.
Warren sat down next to her on the bed, feeling the warmth of the coffee in his hands. They talked for a while, about school, the weather, and just random things. Warren couldn't believe how comfortable he felt around her, and he wished that this moment would last forever.
"Are the clothes okay?" he asked, gesturing towards the clothes she was wearing. "Do you need anything else? We will have to wait sometime before your clothes finish in the dryer. I hope you don't mind."
Max shook her head and smiled at him. "No, everything is great, thank you so much," she replied.
Warren grabbed Max's wet clothes from his dorm floor and looked at Max sitting on his bed. "I'll be right back," he said, rushing towards the laundry room.
He jogged down the hallway, weaving his way through the other students who were also trying to stay dry from the rain. His heart was pounding in his chest, and he couldn't stop thinking about Max.
As he reached the laundry room, he quickly shoved Max's clothes into one of the dryers and set the timer. He leaned against the wall, trying to catch his breath and calm his racing heart.
The sound of the dryer filled the small room, and Warren couldn't help but think of how nice it would be to have Max here with him. He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He didn't want to scare her away by being too forward.
Max's frown deepened as she waited for Warren to return. She knew it had only been a few minutes, but it felt like an eternity. Why did she always feel this way when she was with him? It was like time slowed down and every second without him was unbearable.
She shook her head, trying to rid herself of these thoughts. This was just a one-time thing, after all. They couldn't keep doing this. But a part of her couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to have more moments like this with him.
With a deep breath, Warren gathered himself and headed back to his dorm room. As he walked, he couldn't help but feel hopeful about what the rest of the day might bring. Maybe, just maybe, he would finally get the courage to tell Max how he felt.
Warren returned to his dorm room to find her sitting on his bed, wrapped in a blanket, and scrolling through her phone.
"Hey!" he says, walking over to his desk and sitting down.
Max looked up from her phone and smiled. "Hey, Warren. Thanks again for letting me borrow your clothes. I really appreciate it."
"No problem," Warren replied. "Do you have anything you want to do while we wait for your clothes to dry? We could watch a movie or play a game or something."
Max thought for a moment before replying, "Actually, do you mind if I use your computer for a bit? I need to check something for class."
"Sure thing," Warren said, gesturing to his laptop on his desk. "Help yourself."
Max smiled gratefully and got up from the bed, making her way to the desk. As she began typing away, Warren switched seats with her and took a seat on his bed and watched her work.
Warren couldn't help but feel grateful for this unexpected moment he was having with Max. As they sat on his bed waiting for her clothes to dry, they exchanged stories about their classes and the latest happenings on campus. He listened intently to every word she said, cherishing the sound of her voice.
Outside, the rain continued to pour, creating a calming rhythm against the window. The sound was so soothing that Warren found himself completely relaxed in Max's company. He couldn't remember the last time he felt this content, just sitting and chatting with someone he cared about.
As they talked, Warren couldn't help but notice how beautiful Max looked. Her hair was still damp, but it framed her face in a way that made her look even more stunning. He tried to push those thoughts to the back of his mind, reminding himself that they were just friends.
As the rain continued to pour, Warren and Max grew tired of talking and decided to find a way to pass the time. Warren suggested playing video games on his TV, and Max eagerly agreed.
They sat down on the small couch in his dorm, with Max grabbing one of the controllers. Warren turned on the console and started up a racing game. They started playing and it quickly turned into a competitive game, with both of them laughing and trash-talking each other as they raced to the finish line.
As they played, they lost track of time, with the rain still pouring outside. The only sound in the room was the sound effects from the game and their own laughter.
After a while, the game ended and they both took a break to catch their breath. Warren glanced at the clock and realised that the dryer had finished.
