The Bottle

The bottle drifted onto the golden sand of the beach, pushed there by gentle ocean waves and illuminated by the soft glow of the moon. Bare feet shuffled toward the bottle, and a hand reached out and wrapped thin fingers around the glass. Inside was a paper, yellowed by long exposure to the sun's rays, its edges curled from heat, and a fraying piece of twine tied hastily around it.

Two bright blue eyes stared into it, and, when she saw the note hidden inside, the lips of the young lady pulled up into a grin.

"Perfect. This is just the inspiration I needed," she quietly said to herself. "I'll just take it home so that I can see what's inside."

She made her way across the cool sand to a house on a hill above the beach. The white shutters and trim were bright in the light of the moon, nicely complementing the light blue siding of the house. A light was on in the kitchen, shining its yellow glow through the windows.

The young woman opened the door and stepped inside the house, glancing to her left where the kitchen was. Everything was where she had left it, scattered across the table and countertops. Shells, feathers, and other miscellaneous objects were strewn about the room. These were the things she collected, the things that helped her find inspiration for her art.

She sat down at the table and cleared a space large enough for her to work with before setting the bottle down. After uncorking the bottle, she grabbed a pair of tweezers from the space in front of her and used them to gently pull the note out.

"To whoever finds this note,

Please, return me to the sea.

That is where I am meant to be."
