That morning I was the happiest I'd ever been in my entire life. I was going to the theaters after school to see a remake of my favorite movie.
"Oliver! Stop staring off into space or else you'll be late for school!" my grandmother yelled.I was finally on my way to school, and that morning I was in such a good mood I started skipping. I didn't think anything would bring me down. I had started back skipping, not realizing I had stopped skipping to think. I was so ecstatic that I completely forgot about my bad luck. Typically on mornings like these I'd be watching out for cars and cracks in the sidewalk that could make me trip, but not that day.
I looked up at the sky. The bright orange sun hitting my porcelain toned skin as it arose. It was really beautiful that morning, I had never tried to notice it before then.
I saw a shadow out the corner of my eye, I turned quickly to look at it. A black cat. I wilted, "Just when I was starting to have a good day," I mumbled. It looked up, mewed contently and then ran away. I looked up to see a ombré pink and yellow sky, nothing but a large cloud heading over.
I snapped back into reality and looked at my watch: 7:16 "Shit! I'm gonna miss the bus!" I started booking it down the sidewalk. As I passed by a house in my neighborhood, their dog looked directly at me. I'm terrified of dogs. The dog leapt up running after me. "Nonono, please I just want to get to the bus stop and I don't taste good anyways!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. Nearly sprinting at this point, the owner finally calls the dog back. "Sorry about that, she can be quite territorial sometimes!" they yelled. I was still running mainly because I needed to still catch the bus. "Oh, its fine!" I yelled back sweetly. It was NOT okay, if I had the confidence and the time I would strangle that dog.
I kept on running until I got to a bridge, it went over a ditch that was normally filled with more trash than water. The water that did flow in it was murky and thick. I stopped a moment, trying to catch the air that had left my lungs when I was running. My head began to pound, I thought it was just because I was out of shape, but it wouldn't go away. Abruptly there was a high pitched ring that rendered me motionless. My nose bleed and the world started spinning. Dizzy, I reached for a railing. I completely missed the railing-curse my bad luck-falling straight into a river. I splashed into the deep blue, dirty mini ocean. Man I really should have taken those swimming lessons.
My mind went blank as I tried to reach for something, anything. There was no air only water. Air. I needed air and couldn't find it. I started sucking in the dirty water and chocked, I was drowning. It only took a second for my body to realize this. And when I did, I was drifting with the soft currents.
A/N that the end of chapter 1! I made this story a few years back actually, about 3 years to be exact. There was a lot of rewriting and I added a lot more things. I hope this story turns out the way I want it to. That's all folks, I hope to see you in the next chapter! P.S. If you're someone who knows me irl and is reading this, we didn't see each other 😭😂
