I was starting to doze off. The only thing visible, and not getting blurring, was him. Damon. I noticed his lips moving, but I heard no sound. The only sound that I had heard, was the sound of my heartbeat gettign louder and louder. I know it sounds cheesy, but everyone has that moment at least once in their life.
I took a sip out of my soda mindlessly. Finally, everything was coming back to me. I could hear his voice again, and I could see straight.
"So, Rebecca.. would you like to come to my party this weekend? Jake, Steve, Sam, Taylor, you, and Jessie will be coming. That is if you come, I mean.." He tilts his head down shyly, as if expecting none of us to come. Why wouldn't we? We were his best friends, and he was one of ours.
I perked my head up. "Of course, Damon."
"Thanks!" He smiles his award winning smile as he stands up and stretches his arms and legs. "Okay. I'm sorry.." He says as he checks his watch. "I have to go. Could you ask Jessie to come? I have to finish planning and such.."
"Yeah, sure." I stood up next to him, letting out a deep sigh.
He smiles at me as he gets ready to leave. After putting all his things into a pile, he gives me a quick glance before envelopping me in a hug. The hug lasted an abnormal five seconrds before letting me go, and saying goodbye.
I wave after him , even as his back is turned walking in the other direction. My waves get slower and slower, until finally my hand drops.
I pick up my phone and soda, placing my phone into my back pocket and the straw of my soda into my mouth. My apartment was only three blocks away. Walking there would only take around five minutes.
Before I start walking, I drink the last bit of my drink and I chucked it into the trash can. Taking my phone back out of my pocket, I texted Jessie to meet me at my place. I ignroed her response, knowing she would be there, and started to walk back to my house. Getting lots of weird looks from people I pass, I started to feel uncomfortable, so I started to walk a tiny bit faster.. my strides turning into skips and leaps.
Since my strides got bigger, it took me half as much time as it would have if I was walking like I had planned to do, so already, I was there.
I sat on the steps in front of my building, waiting for my best friend Jess to arrive. I played on my phone for about ten minutes, (I am very patient..) and still, she wasn't here. Again, I sighed, and walked into my building. Walking straight past the elevator, I immediately went to the stairs. I have a fear of elevators, and I wasn't planning on overcoming it anytime soon.
Step by step, I walked up to the third floor, and opened the little door revealing everyone of the apartments on this floor. Mine was at the very end of the hallway.
Peeping out, I made sure I wouldn't run into anybody before I opened the door and ran down the hallway up to my apartment. I ran my hands through all of my pockets trying to find my key. When I didn't find it, I sighed, rested against the wall, and slowly slid down. I placed my head in my hands.
I only knew two people who had a spare key, Jessie, and Damon.
Pulling out my phone, and feelin bad that I would annoy either one of my friends, I sent a text to both of them saying, "Uh. Can you help? I kind of lost my apartent key.. and I can't get inside.. and..... yeah."
I waited another three minutes until I got a text back, but not from Jessie. From Damon. It read, "I'll help, I will be there in a few minutes. Hang in there."
Placing a smile on my face, I put my phone on the ground and stared straight forward at light blue painted wall. As I waited, I picked at my nails.. it was a really annoying habit that I had to break sometime soon.
My neighbors walked out of their apartment and gave me a strange look. I ignored them, and continued to stare at my wall.
As they walked down the hallway, I heard them whispering about "What a strange girl I was," and "What is wrong with me." I jerked my head that way, and noticed Damon walking down the hallway towards me. I quickly stood up and smiled, anxiously waiting for him to open my door so I can get inside.
He walked over, and I could slightly hear him chuckling at me. I threw him a rude glance, but in a jokingly way.
He pulls his spare key out of his pocket, and unlocked my door for me. I smile and thank him for helping me. "Would you like anything? Like coffee or something. I make good coffee.." I ramble, trying to make conversation.
"Yeah.. Sure. You can help me plan the party!" He says.
I invite him inside and walk over into the kitchen so I could make him the coffee that he had wanted. He sat down on the couch in my living room, gently placing both of his feet on my glass coffee table like he was at home. I didn't mind, I thought it was awesome how he wasn't socially awkward around me.
After getting it all ready, I brought it out to him. I sat down next to him and crossed my legs to get comfortable. I lean over and get a notebook off of my side table and hand it to him for ideas.
"Any ideas?" He asks me. "I'm not creative.."
"Baloons, streamers, and don't forget party fixes. OHH and games. Spin the bottle, truth or dare, and seven minutes in heaven. Normal teen stuff." I say, spilling out all the ideas in mind. I quietly mutter, "Oh." To myself, realizing that I had said more than I had planned to. He stares at me in shock, but in a matter of seconds his shocked face turned into a happy smile face.
"Those are great ideas!" He says while writing everything down on the notepad. Hopefully he didn't notice that I said all that about him. It just kind of came out.. "What kind of fixes?" He asks, lifting his head up from his notes.
"Party chips.. salsa, punch, sodas."
He continued writing. but he stopped when I did. He once again smiled his bright smile as he lays the notebook down. He takes a sip of the coffee I made him, and for a while, we sat in silence, not saying anything to eachother.
"Uh.. who all is coming again?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"You, me, of course, " He giggles, and it melts my heart. "Taylor, Jessie, Sam, Jake, and Steve. I think that's all." I nod.
I hated Taylor. She was one of the popular kids that acted too cool for everyone, but she was friends with every guy that she had ever met, and she went out with about half of them, also, giving her the nickname, "slut." But, of course, Damon didn't see it.
"Well, I have to go shopping to buy everthing tomorrow. Want to come along?" He asks. I nod as finishes the coffee. "Come Saturday around 11am. Bring Jess, she hasn't answered me."
"Okay." I say.
He gets up and I lead him to the door.
"Thank you, Becca, for all of the help. I appreciate this." He says, the notebook in his hand. "I'll catch ya later." He leaves down the hallway, and I slowly close the door behind him. Stressfully, I slide down the back of the door as I did when I was locked out.
"Why doesn't he notice?" I whisper to myself.
