Bullet

My mom always said I have a telltale heart. It makes me a terrible liar on my bad days.

(12:30, lunchtime)

Tom and Tord bump shoulders on their way into the cafeteria.

Tom keeps looking down.

There's a whole hall, dammit! Don't make up something dumb for running into—

His thoughts which are a bullet speeding into Tord's chest, stop running and bounce back to Tom as he looks up. His heart hammers against his chest. He's at a loss for words as they stand there in the hallway. He tries to talk, but his mouth won't move from it's wide open state.

"Thomas?" Tord's thick accent melts Tom's heart yet again and he stays standing there. Tord grabs his wrist and starts walking him to their table in the back corner of the cafeteria, where Edd and Matt are chuckling. Halfway there, Tom looks down at Tord's hand, who's obviously inching his fingers towards Tom's.

On a whim, Tom rolls his eyes and quickly intertwines his fingers with Tord's. He doesn't think about this, though. It's only to fluster Tord, of course.

Tord's heart somehow pounds louder than Tom's did in the hallway.

Matt winks at Edd. Tom and Tord sit down, their fingers still tangled together and Tord's face still a furious red. He pulls his hand away from Tom.

Holy fuck, he's got a right grip. Tord's mind runs a marathon and Tom just sits there smugly. Tord catches on and glares at Tom, still crimson-faced.

"So, how were your classes?"
Edd asks with a voice like a scheming 12 year old.

"They were rather boring, mom," Tom chortled.

"How about you, Tord?" Matt follows. "They were alright, thanks for asking."

Edd chuckles, "How about on the way here?" Matt grabs Edd's hand and puts their elbows on the counter for added effect.

"Ah, well.. We just walked here. Nothing special."

"Uh-huh..." Matt rolls his eyes. Edd gives Tom a knowing look and he blushes thinking about if his hands had been inching down Tord's back instead of his hand.

He shakes off the thought.

You can't think about your worst enemy like that! The only reason he hasn't bullied you yet is because he wants to hang out with— Edd and Matt have a healthy relationship, one you and Tord can't have—

His thoughts skip around and wouldn't make much sense to anyone normal. His eyes well up with tears. He rubs them, pretending he's tired.

The bell rings. "That went by too fast," Edd half grumbles, half chuckles.

They all walk to class.
