Rover^^
Delilah looked embarrassed - and it took a lot to make her feel uncomfortable - so I knew it was something awkward, I just didn't know what. I looked at Droid H and he looked back at me, we both seemed equally unsure as to why the room had suddenly become tense.
"You can switch those features off, It's got a back piece that you can take apart and flick off certain things, it's not like I specifically bought it for that! what use would I have... It just comes with that, you can't buy one without that feature." Dad was ranting, he only did that when he felt uneasy.
"Well then you better switch it off. Jesus Doug, start reading the manual." Mom sent one last disturbed look at the droid and walked out of the room.
I moved closer to him, wanting to get a better look and see if I could detect anything unusual that would lead me to believe he was a robot.
"Hello." his greeting was normal as he saw me approach him and I gave a big welcoming smile. I liked him.
"Hi!" I grinned, he studied my face for a moment before his own smile slowly appeared, he seemed to be copying me, like he'd never smiled before and I realised he wouldn't have, if this was his first day... alive? switched on?
"May I have your name miss?" he asked politely.
"Raegan, but you can call me Rae."
"Like a sunshine" he stated.
A ray of sunshine... I liked it. It made me think of summer days and they always made me happy.
"And yours miss?" he turned to Delilah, who grimaced and stayed silent.
"She's Delilah." I say, taking pity on him when she refused to acknowledge that he had asked her a simple question
'teenage rebellious antics'
"I'm Doug," Dad jumped in, "and my wife's name is Susan."
"Whats your... erm... I mean what shall we call you?" I didn't know if they were assigned names when activated... or do we pick one, like when we got my puppy Rover.
"You haven't issued me with one yet Miss Rae." he answered my unspoken question.
"Would you like to name him Rae?"
It seemed surreal, naming someone who looked like a human, a man who if my age guessing skills were anything to boast about looked to be mid twenties. I was going to name him.
A little burst of giddy excitement passed through me, this is grown up stuff and I'm allowed to do it.
Droid H... well it should be a name beginning with H I think.
Lists of H names floated around my brain; Henry, Harry, Hank, Howard, Harvey, Hayden...
Hayden.
Thats the one.
"What about Hayden?"
I knew a boy called Hayden who stayed across the street two summers ago with his auntie before she moved, he was nice and we played a lot together.
"Hayden sounds good to me, what about you?" Dad looked at droid "Can you work with Hayden?"
Droid H... now Hayden looked down at me and smiled "I like that very much." his eyes were warm, kind, and intelligent.
"Great, Hayden it is." dad clapped his hands together. "Right, well I'm going to look through this manual so Rae, sweetie do you and Delilah want to give Hayden a tour of the place?"
I nodded enthusiastically while Delilah grimaced and walked out of the room without saying anything. I looked at Hayden wondering if he'd be upset that Delilah had taken an instant dislike to him but his face was blank, awaiting a command from somebody.
"Come on Hayden, I'll show you around." I chirped up at him smiling again. He copied me before lifting himself out of his box and following me out of the room.
