campus coffee, 9:23 AM.
"So you're telling me, 'ol boy just dropped you off and dipped? Not even a little bit of hate-fucking?"
The light-blue ceramic cup of chai tea clanked back against its matching dish, as Sage took a sip, rolling her eyes at her girlfriend. "Not everyone likes to resolve their arguments with sex."
Lani shifted closer to her partner, wrapping one long arm around Sage's shoulders. "That's crazy. Just us then, babe."
An audible gag came from across the table, and Chaka pointed a singular finger towards the back of her throat.
"Can y'all go one brunch without mentioning your vaginas? Please?"
Sage nudged the dark-haired woman adjacent to her, a playful smirk on her face. "Yeah, Lani. I'm the only one who wants to hear about your vagina."
Chaka buried her face into her white OVO quarter zip, pulling her khaki beanie over her ears. "I am begging y'all to go back to discussing my trash taste in men."
Powdered sugar showered down onto black basketball shorts, as Lani bit into her apple turnover, back on topic once again. "Have you considered taking a break from men, like in general?"
The beanie obscuring Chaka's face was tugged down further as she let out a long groan. Last time she took some time to figure things out for herself, she met a certain fine ass man in Auntie Bea's.
And now here she was, with a not-ex blowing up her phone, and the previously mentioned fine ass nigga in his feelings blowing up her nerves.
"I'm gonna take that as a no."
"It's not that," Chaka replied. It was just that she always seemed to stumble upon men that appeared to be shiny and new and different, only to be let down over and over again.
It was just that sometimes Chaka felt that she was too much of an optimist for her own good.
Sage piped up, once again adding her two cents to the conversation. "Cheer up! Haven't you thought of actually trying to talk it out with him?"
Another weary moan emitted from the lump of fabric across from the couple, and Sage nudged her friend encouragingly with her foot.
"To be honest, and don't crucify me for this," Lani began. "But you're overreacting. One lil' misunderstanding isn't the end of the world."
