Adriana Gold was only sixteen when her parents died. She was also only sixteen when she killed someone. Granted, it was an accident, but that didn't matter much when the person you killed was a police officer. What a great age it was for her.
The only person who was there for her, was her Uncle James, and she couldn't even tell him everything. Not when she killed anything she touched when she was particularly emotional. Wilting them like a dying flower. Or how she was currently searching for her parents killer, desiring to kill him just as he'd killed her entire family.
Two months after her parents murder, she continues attending Midtown High. That being the school her father worked at before his death, there were quite a few pitying faces, only speaking with her out of remorse. All except for Lilly Jackson, whom Adriana believed to be slightly off her rocker, Peter Parker, a boy she was not entirely fond of, Noah Shepard, the guy she was friends with before her ordeal, and Ned Leeds, a nice kid who she was perfectly okay with.
Even after all she does to push this quartet away, for their own good of course, they refuse to abandon her, and insist on hanging out. Nothing Adriana could do about it anymore, so if they ended up getting the life force sucked from their very souls, then they had no one to blame but themselves.
Eventually, the infamous Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, hears of her gifts, as everyone calls them, and investigates. This heeds interesting results when he sees that she was a murderer, however unintentional. He recruits her for a mission, something Spider-Man is thrilled about, unlike her. He interrupts her plans for finding the killer, completely derailing everything.
Adriana is soon forced to spend more time than desired with Mr. Parker, along with Lilly who had began informing her that she should date Peter. It was an absurd thing for her to think, and yet as Adriana became closer to Peter, she finds it harder and harder to control her erratic heartbeat when he's around. And since her heart rate was basically what fuelled her powers, that was unfortunate.
Though her personal feelings for this boy are forgotten when she truly finds out what it's like to be wilted.
