I stand on the streets of the kingdom known as Kalypso. The chill of the winter frosts every breath I take. Snowflakes dust the edges of the town. Every surface is covered in a white blanket. It's the first snow of the winter.

The worn-down rags I wear don't provide enough warmth for my frail body. I feel the chatter of my teeth rattle my frame and the chill of my bones shaking beneath ghastly skin. Yet I stand limply on the stone-paved road, selling grains. Business is becoming slim as most people hurry into their homes to escape the cold winter.
A figure emerges from underneath an archway opposite to me, walking slowly. A red cloak is draped around their figure that shields the face from view. Slowly the figure walks to my pathetic setup. A sigh escaped my lips as I thanked whatever god was watching over me. The business had been so incredibly slow today. The figure who I identified as female lowers her hood the tiniest bit to ask a simple question.
"How much?"
"What are you looking to buy ma'am?" I can see that she is not in need of such poor food. Her body looks healthy and well-fed. The jewels hanging from her ears signify her riches. Stupidly I mumbled the answer. There is no possible way she heard me correctly. The stranger does not ask again but instead waits patiently for me to prepare the grains. I carefully amalgamate a perfect mix into a tiny brown sack. As I tie the ends of the string together to secure the pouch our eyes meet once again. Before me is a picture-perfect face. Her once long locks seemed to have been chopped up messily below her ears. The orange tint of her hair matches the millions of specks on her face. I stare into her piercing green eyes and realize the face is somewhat familiar. I can't figure out how. She thanks me quietly with a bow then returns down the alleyway. My eyes follow her every move.
I begin to pack up shop when I notice out of the corner of my eye the red cloak once again. The fabric follows her as she emerges from a building. I recognize it clearly. The food bank. The brown bag is no longer in her possession.
When I reach the tiny shack I call home immediately I fall to my knees out of exhaustion. A tear slides down my cheek. I check my pockets, barely enough money to eat for a few days. Getting up, I crouch over and place firewood in the fireplace. The dim light from the flames sheds enough light for me to read a novel. My mind continuously wanders back to the events of today. It was bothering me that I couldn't figure out where I had seen that girl from. The book finds its ways out of my hands and onto my nightstand. I curl myself into a ball and hug my knees tightly to my chest. The night slowly fades to morning.
In the mornings I work delivering food to varying locations. In the afternoon I sell grains on street corners. This particular morning another episode occurred. Ever since my family died in a village lying outside of the main town I began to receive visions of the future. I saved many coins to afford to be able to see people who specialize in the supernatural and the art of magic. My Grandmother was a witch and had warned me many years before great suffering I would go through. She said my life would be filled with blessings and curses. I did not know what she meant at the time. This morning I dreamt of the girl I saw in the red cloak except something was...well, weird. In the vision, someone was planting a kiss upon her dainty lips. That person was me. It was unheard of for another female to do such a thing. This vision turned nightmare did not have a resolute ending. Which was in no way normal for my visions. Panic had spread over my entire body just thinking of not knowing how to stop such a thing from happening. I couldn't help but find myself smiling at the thought. I slapped my freezing hand across my face, yelling at myself to forget it. Father would be so ashamed.
Most of the snow had completely frozen over outside leaving a dangerous layer of ice. I slip my bag over my shoulder and wrap an itchy scarf around my neck. As I pick up the delivery of fresh basil that must of been grown indoors at this time of year I set off on my delivery trip. Before I know it, I'm following the directions to the palace. The dangerously icy paths cause me to lose my footing here and there. The fifth time I slip my legs completely give out, just in time an arm catches me. A velvety-red, warm fabric covers the arm. I meet eyes with the mysterious girl again. The vision is beginning to make sense. Panic runs through every vein in my frail body. As I turn to run a hand grabs my scarf, stopping me in my tracks.
"We meet again, where are you headed to?" She places a finger under my chin to force her eyes upon mine. I squint to avoid direct contact.
"Are you avoiding...me?" She gasps sarcastically. I can't help but let out a sharp shrill of laughter. I cough to suppress it.
"I'm out for delivery to the palace." I tuck my head.
"How funny, I'm on my way there right now!" God help me.
