°Emberly°
-Flash back-
It was a Sunday afternoon when I had been woken up by my twenty one year old brother, James. He was banging on my door, yelling at me to get up. "Get your ass up, Emberly! You're gonna be late for your own birthday party." He paused and I barely heard him mumble, "I wouldn't be surprised if you were late to your own funeral."
I sleepily rubbed at my eyes before stretching my body and throwing my legs over the side of my bed. I looked over my nightstand for my black, thick rimmed glasses and put them on, shivering at the coldness of the plastic. It took me a while to finally stand on my own two feet before walking to my bedroom door in my soft and fluffy, plain black pajamas.
As I opened my bedroom door, for me to show my brother proof that I was up, I had noticed that it wasn't just my brother standing at the door, my mom and dad had joined him too. "Good morning guys," I had told them, my voice still raspy from my slumber. Only then did it dawn upon me that it's my birthday and that mom was holding a cake that had said 'Happy Birthday Ember!'
"Happy birthday, my princess." my father had said to me, giving me a tight, armourus hug. James hugged me right after dad.
After all the hugs, mom had given me a small box wrapped in wrapping paper. I gave her a look. "This is just something small from all three of us. We all know you aren't a big fan of presents, but we all still wanted to get you something." She had said hurriedly, with a small guilty smile.
She wasn't wrong, although I appreciated them I didn't really like presents. I felt selfish every time someone had given me one, I just didn't like people spending money on me, especially if it was expensive.
As I tore open the wrapper, there was a small silver box revealed. When I opened the box, there was a golden necklace laying neatly on the foam. When I took it out of the box, I couldn't help but admire its beauty. There was a plain, gold heart with words inscribed within it on both sides. On one side, it read, 'We love you.' And on the other side, it had 'James, Mom, and Dad' in their own signatures.
As James put the neclace around my neck, mom and dad had hugged me again. And when he was done putting the necklace on, I turned around and hugged my brother too. "Thank you guys, you have no idea how much this means to me." I had said.
"We knew you would like it. James had made plans for you with your friend for today, too. She will be here to pick you up in a couple of hours." My father had commented.
"Ok, I'll be downstairs in a bit." I told them as they made their way out of my room.
-Few hours later-
Knowing Saige, my best friend, we are more than likely going to some random bar - illegally, of course. So after getting out of the shower, I put my glasses back on along with some black skinny jeans, with rips in them, a plain grey t-shirt, my black flats, and my black leather jacket. Along with my outfit, I had put on some light colored eyeshadow, with some eyeliner and some lipgloss. My light brown, long hair was put up into a messy bun, with some strands falling out, framing my face. And to finish the look, I had put on the necklace I had gotten from my parents and my brother.
As soon as I was done, James yelled from downstairs, "Ember, Saige is here!" Before I left the room, I looked at my reflection in my full body-length mirror behind my door. Behind my glasses, the eye makeup did wonders for my small, light green eyes, and the lip gloss gave my thin, pink lips the sparkle they needed. My outfit accentuated my curves in all the right places, and my hair showed my semi-defined jaw and chubby, blushed cheeks.
