I walked home, bit windy (weather not me much anyway..) and when I walked through our peeling red door I could hear shouting.
I thought mum and nan again cos it's us three living together since grandad died before I was born. Nan is short, mousey hair and 56, mum also mousey hair and in thirties, both had kids young "get 'em out young" they'd said to me.
As I walked through into the living room, the cries were more concerned than angry. I dropped my bag and peered into the kitchen , I cautiously crept in, taking a seat at the breakfast bar. Mum placed a cup of tea infront of me, shaking.
"What's up?" I asked , it wasn't usual for all this tea as sit down business, something was up, something was wrong.
"Darling, how was your day?" nan enquired , trying to make light conversation , mum squirmed awkwardly, I followed in suit.
"Nat.." mum started , nan turned off the radio that was quietly playing some tunes as a sort of background sound, murmuring and humming.
"Your..father...." I was started , we rarely spoke of him, he'd been in jail since I was one, he was a psycho, tried to kill us and had assaulted mum multiple times, he'd also had a mental illness, causing him to go to a mental hospital before prison."Your father has escaped, last seen 1am this morning by a warden, couldn't catch up with him, he's.." she burst into noisy sobs, I could feel my face pale into an ashen shade, and my body felt like heavy lead as I sunk into the chair. Where is he now? Is he coming here?
We'd moved from Manchester to here, Nan lived here with us, insisted otherwise she'd too be alone and would miss us, as would we. We live in Windercrest, small town southern England, 'Dad' was in prison in Scotland, he couldn't be here for another few days..weeks?
Nan was on the phone, I assume to services or something for a place in hiding, what if he found us? I doubt it, but then again I'd doubted he'd escape, so did everyone and look how that turned out!
She put it down, fury arose to her face, inflaming it red and engulfing the room's atmosphere into complete dispair and misery.
"They say to stay here, don't go out, stay in, lock ourselves in and don't go out unless completely necessary and if he comes, to call them up. Useless fools."
The phone rang, I expected it to be them with more useless so called 'advice'. But it wasn't, it was Isla.
Isla: Omg the news..your dad!
Me: I know, don't tell ANYONE, it's only -
Isla: Me, your nan, mum and you and the police who know who you are/ about him
Me: Yeah
Isla: You can come over if you want
Me: I can't, we have to lock ourselves in, not go out unless necessary
Isla: What about shopping and school?
Me: Shopping - delivery, school, well say I'm sick and not to visit as contagious
Isla: Ok, can we call though, I wanna check in to see if you're alright
Me: Sure! Why did you call my landline though?
Isla: My phone's dead lol, see you later!
Me: See ya!I felt an icy glare pierce my skin , mum. "WHO WAS THAT?" she thundered " YOU KILLED US ALL! " I rolled my eyes and explained, she was the one that said I could tell Isla. She apolgoised and I went upstairs to have a shower.
As I came out of the steam filled room and put on night clothes , I heard a noise. A rustle. I looked around and went downstairs to see a note, probably from the post man I thought.
