Mara arrived at the block of flats where Mr Will Lenney lived. She entered with help of the management there and proceeded to knock on his door"

"Hi can... oh, hello officer" responded the dark haired, square headed man in a Geordie accent.

"Hello Mr Lenney. I'm PC Bloom. I've come to ask you some questions about an incident last night, may I come in?" asked Mara authoritatively.

"Yeah ok" replied Will solemnly.

Mara then questioned him. His account corroborated much of what other witnesses at the party had said. He admitted his guilt.

"So I'm free to go right, I mean I've confessed but as we've established, Simon and I are friends, this doesn't need to go any further" said Will hopefully.

"I'm sorry Will. The law doesn't work that way, I'm afraid, you're under arrest for assault." said Mara somewhat unhappily as she had been impressed with Will's remorseful attitude and demeanor throughout her questioning of him, but the law was the law.

"Please! Don't do this" cried Will desperately.

"I'm sorry. You have to come with me. Your best hope is that your bail will be paid.

Will, incredibly downtrodden surrendered. Mara placed him in and handcuffs and drove him to the station.

A few days later...

Will's bail had been paid by some of his friends. Mara was satisfied that she had done her job and that a good result had come of the situation. She was tasked with taking him back home. They arrived at his flat and he went in, a collection of people were there and he was embraced and cheered for by them. It put a small smile on Mara's face.

"Thanks for the lift officer." said Will smiling, obviously pleased to be out of his cell.

"You're welcome. I'm sorry about what happened, but you have to understand I was just doing my job. I hope this doesn't happen again, I hope you've learned from it." said Mara, with a maternal vibe emanating from her.

"I understand and it won't" replied Will.

"Have a good evening. said Mara with a smile.

"I will" replied Will happily.

Mara left the building, her shift over with. She was tired and really needed time to rest. As she was leaving she was approached by a young man with ginger hair.

"Excuse me, are you the officer who arrested Will?" he asked curiously.

"I'm not at liberty to say" said Mara authoritatively.

"You are aren't you? I'm sorry you had to deal with such as stupid incident, he can go a bit mad sometimes" said the man.

Mara simply nodded. for some reason she felt she could trust this man, she felt a good aura surrounding him.

"You must be one of his friends then? I guess you're going to the little reunion party that's being held for him?" Mara said with curiosity.

"I'm meant to. I don't really feel like it though. Don't get me wrong, I love Will as a friend but I'm just not feeling it tonight." he responded.

"It's a big deal getting out of jail, you know, don't you think you should spend some time with him?"

"He should be used to it, the massive nonce!" said the man laughing.

"What??" said a shocked and bemused Mara, her police instincts taking over.

"I'm joking." said the man laughing even more.

Mara then couldn't help but laugh.

"Not the best joke to make in front of a police officer mate!" said Mara laughing.

"Anyway, I fancy a quiet one, what are you up to? Are you off duty?" said the man.

"I am now off duty with nothing planned" said Mara smiling. "Why do you ask?"

"Do you fancy going for a drink?" asked the man with hope in his eyes.

Mara thought about it. Was this wise? He was linked to someone she'd previously arrested. She felt it was potentially unprofessional but her curious nature took over:

"Fuck it. Go on then!" she exclaimed happily.

"Great! There's a pub nearby!"

"Let me get changed and take my uniform off"

"Sure thing officer" said the man winking, making Mara laugh.

They later approached the pub, got drinks and sat down.

"I never even asked you your name" said the man.

"I'm Mara, Mara Bloom. What's yours?"

"I'm Stephen. Stephen Lawson."

"Well Stephen, here's to some quiet time" said Mara.

They clinked their glasses. A new friendship had been formed.
