I stepped out of the comfort of my home. I was wearing my pajamas with bunnies printed onto them, with my cow slippers.
At 3 in the morning.
Don't judge me.
I left a note in the kitchen table, explaining to my roommate Ara, that if she were awake before I got back, I'd be at McDonald's. I got into my car, and headed out onto the street. McDonald's was only 5 minutes away from my tiny apartment. As I reached the red stoplight, it had occurred to me that no music was playing. No wonder it was awfully quiet.
I reached into the glove department, looking for my CD holder. I flipped through a couple of CD's before I found the right one. Favourite Worst Nightmare by Arctic Monkeys. I pop the CD into the sterio, and instantly Old Yellow Bricks started playing. Honestly, in my opinion, Old Yellow Bricks is the best song from this album. I start tapping my fingers along with the music, while swaying my head side to side.
I look up to see the light. It's green. I look forward, the car in front of me was gone. I realized, I have probably been sitting here like a dumb ass, while the light was green. Ugh. I'm so dumb. I quickly step onto the gas peddle, all while being very cautious. Well, not really, because my car made a screech before heading off very quickly on the street. A car passing next to me honked, while shouting something, and throwing their middle finger out the window. Whatever. It's not like I can hear whatever the bastard was saying.
By the time I was at McDonald's, Old Yellow Bricks was a few seconds from ending. I got out of my car, locked it, and went inside of the restaurant. There was very few people here. There wasn't that many employees working tonight either. I grabbed my phone from out of my pocket, and checked the time. 3:46 a.m.
A Mc Flurry sounds so good right now. A Big Mac sounds good too. And a soda. And some fries. And a chocolate chip cookie too. Fuck I eat too much. Eh, who cares.
"Hey Jess!'' I look away from the menu, and see a familiar face. "Hey Kelsie, how are you?''
She still looks so happy and cheerful. Same face and all. Her make up looks the same as well. "Oh, alright. I mean working here isn't my dream job but, it's helping pay my way into college so, yeah." I chuckle. "How have you been? Haven't seen you since high school!" Seriously she is way too cheery.
" Oh I'm fine. I'm actually going to college in a little while. A few months away actually." Okay now let me order girl I didn't even like in high school. "Oh that's fine, that's great actually! Now, what will you have?'' A social life please. "Um can I have a Mc Flurry and a Big Mac, the combo, and a chocolate chip cookie." I watched her type my order into the machine. I honestly feel so vulnerable right now. I just feel like people are watching me. And I don't like that.
"That'll be $8.76." I gave her the money and she handed me my change. She already knew my name so she wrote it onto the receipt. She smiled at me and I walked to a table in the far corner. I watched very few people come in and out of the restaurant door. I noticed one male, sit directly in front of me. And I mean directly in front of me. He was alone, like me, I assume. Maybe his friend was ordering. Who knows.
"Jess!" YAY MY FOOD. I got up and walked to the counter where my food was waiting anxiously for me. I grabbed my tray and headed back to my table. I saw the guy who was sitting in front of me, in my seat. At my table. My table. Okay, it's not my table. It doesn't belong to me. But I was there first. I have virtually called mind dibs on it. You can't just take that away from me. I don't really know why I'm complaining about this. Probably just because I'm hungry and I need to sit down and eat my food. Plus i've been sanding here like an idiot in the middle of the room.
I walk over to my table. He was sitting in a way so his back was facing me. Guy, you need to get out of my seat. He's on his phone, so I set my tray down, and I sat directly in front of him. He looked up, and can I say, woah. This guy is hot. "Can I help you with something? Do you want a picture or something like that?" What. "Um, okay I don't know what you're talking about, but I was kind of sitting here, and I would like my spot back." He smiled, and damn. Hot smile. "I mean like, this table doesn't belong to me, but I kind of like this table a lot, and I'd like it back."
"Robert!" They shouted a costumer's name. "That's me." He got up and left. He left his phone on the table, unlocked. I felt like snooping but that's not right. He came back a minute later with his tray of food. He sat in front of me. "I'm going to go fill my cup with soda now." I said, and I did. I got up and headed towards the soda machine. And lucky me, he got up and came along too. "So whats you're name?" He asked, as he tilted his cup and put ice into it. I got my cup and the machine started pouring Sprite into my cup. "Jessamin, what's your's Mr. Table stealer?" He chuckled. He got Orange Soda. "I'm Michael." We both assumed we were done, so we headed back to the table.
"Wait, if your name is Michael, then why did you go when the cashier called for Robert?" He opened the box to his burger, while I ate a fry. "I did that so no one would notice that I'm here." I almost choked on my fry. "Are you like F.B.I's most wanted or something?" I chuckled, so did he. "So you really dont know who I am." It didn't even sound like a question. "All I know is that you're a table stealer." This made him laugh. I noticed my ice cream was melting a bit, so I grabbed my spoon and ate some. "Well, I'm Michael. And I am basically wanted." He took a bite of his burger. I fed myself another spoon full of ice cream. "Basically wanted by the F.B.I?" He laughed while saying, "No, as cool as that sounds I'm wanted by media. I'm in a band."
I continued to eat my ice cream while he ate his hamburger. We ate and just talked about ourselves. No one else really came to the restaurant, considering it was 3 a.m. Apparently Michael was in a band that was known world wide, and he likes ponies. I've heard of his band, but I never really looked into it that much.
After we were done, he asked for my number. I gave him mine, and he gave me his. And we both walked out to the parking lot.
"Just text me whenever, Robert." He chuckled, and I smiled. He extended his hand, and I gladly shook it. "Well, thank you for letting me steal your table.'' At this point we were both smiling. "Well, it's getting pretty cold, and I have to get back home. But it was nice to meet you." I walked towards my car. I got in, and sarted the engine.
She wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up but,
Dorathy was right though.
The whole way home, I replayed that song.
