It's been only half an hour, and Kimberly's feet were already starting to hurt. And she was pretty sure her flashlight was starting to run out of batteries.
But one thing was for sure, those growls seemed to be getting closer. She wasn't sure if it was following her, or if she was approaching whatever 'it' was.
Suddenly, her flashlight flickered, and it turned off.
"Damn." Kimberly swore, hitting it a few times to no avail. She whipped it onto the ground in anger, kicking it aside. It was dark, and she had no idea where she was.
A lowly roar sounded just from behind her, and a snuffle. Kim gulped.
I have to look behind me, don't I.
Forcing down a pit of terror, she whipped around. And what she saw almost made her scream.
It looked like the robotic version of a puma. It had metal teeth, unsheathed razor-sharp metal claws, and whenever it opened it's mouth to let out a terrifying growl, wires crossed it's mouth. It's tail lashed angrily as it dug it's claws into the ground.
What the hell...
Kimberly backed away slowly just as the puma let out another snarl, slowly walking up to her, claws ticking eerily on the stone floor. She backed into a wall, and tried to feel around her for a place to escape.
But then the lion sprang, bowling Kimberly over with a triumphant snarl.
Most of the time, nothing really could pierce their armour. But as the searing pain of the puma's claws dug into Kim's shoulder blades, a gasp of astonishment and agony escaped her mouth. She tried to push the heavyweight off of her. Once the was able to, she ran. Ran in any direction.
Scream if you need me. That's what Trini told me.
And she did.
She heard the metal claws scraping against the floor, getting closer and closer. A war cry came out of nowhere, than a flash of yellow. It was Trini, tackling the puma to the ground. The yellow ranger was fearless, reaching into the ferocious puma's mouth and pulling the red wires out. It twitched once, then fell limp below her feet.
Kimberly's armour faded from her body, exposing her white shirt. It was stained with blood from her torn open shoulder blades, but when she looked at Trini, her wounds seemed puny.
The petite girl's forehead was bleeding down to her chin, thighs scratched as well. She adjusted her beanie to try to cover it. Her shirt also had blood stains near the middle, and she stood like she was about to topple over.
"I'm fine, Kim." Her voice had an agonized edge, but as she slid down to sit against the wall tiredly, a few tears slid from her eyes.
"Oh yeah? It isn't like your forehead is bleeding profusely or anything." Kimberly sneered sarcastically. "Don't act like it doesn't hurt."
Trini's eyes flashed to Kim's shoulder blades. "What about you, huh?"
"It's nothing. Your the one that's gonna bleed to death if we don't patch you up." Kimberly sighed. "Let me help."
Trini reluctantly narrowed her eyes, slipping off her shirt.
They had never changed in front of each other before, but Kimberly tried not to shift her gaze awkwardly as the smaller girl threw her stained shirt on the stone floor.
"Go ahead, do your worse, pink."
