"Marinette! Marinette wait up!" I hear a voice behind me, expecting to see Alya, but instead I'm greeted by Nino. Strange. I turn and wait for him and see a somewhat panicked expression on his face.
"Hey Nino, what's going on? You look pale." I say as I turn to watch the walk sign change from red to green and continue on to the school.
"I need to talk to you privately. It's important. " He still looked worried.
"I'm sure we can talk before cla-" I was cut off.
"It's about Adrien. Follow me. " My heart sank and I got a lump in my throat. I match his pace and follow suit. He leads me to the front doors where he points at the locker room entrance, "There." Adrien was standing next to Kagami. She didn't laugh, but she had a smile on her face when she talked to him. I could barely make it out but Adrien seemed calm and sure around her. He looked so comfortable, and she looked confident. That was something I didn't have when I talked to him.
"I just thought you might have wanted to see that. I know that y-" He had a sad look on his face.
"I have to study for my test, and Alya is walking over. Thanks anyways." I began walking towards the stairs when his hand wraps around my wrist and I spin back around.
"You good girl? You look really upset, you know you can talk to me, " Alya gave me a warm smile and looked at me with worry splayed across her face.
I considered telling her the truth, but I didn't feel like having a big talk right now. "No, I'm fine. I have to study. I'll talk to you later." I walked up the stairs, taking one last look at Adrien and Kagami talking and ready to walk up the stairs, and finally open the door. I sit down in my regular seat as everyone files in, bell ringing. Adrien and Kagami sit down in the front seats, and when Nino and Alya walk in, I let them sit together and move back a row.
I sit with my hand on my chin, looking around I see everyone is sitting next to a person they are close too, then look to the seat next to me and realize I'm sitting alone. I lay my head on my desk and respond when I hear my name called.
"Luka Couffaine?" Mrs. Bustier called. I put my head up and startled myself when I heard a low buttery voice the the left of me.
"Here," I hadn't realized that Luka was sitting next to me until he called out. Luka was tall and had broad shoulders, his diamond face shape complimented by his shaggy black and teal hair. He had a delicate nose with teal eyes and thin lips. When I looked at him it felt different from when I look at Adrien. I was more calm when I was around Luka, I felt safe when his face softened as he looked at me. When I was around Adrien I felt scared and giddy, but this felt new, it felt better.
"You looked nice today Marinette. N-not that you don't look nice everyd- I mean you always look nice but to-" He looked embarrassed and happy, his cheeks turned red and he slapped his palm to his forehead. He chuckled and smiled.
I smiled back and put my hand on his arm. "Thank you, Luka." He looked up at me again and smiled. I saw Adrien look up at us out of the corner of my eye but I don't move.
"Okay Class! Get your book out and turn to chapter 6.2," Mrs. Bustier announced.
"Would you like to come over after school today? To my house, we could hangout a little and get to know each other," He seemed to have calmed down and seemed a lot more suave and sure of himself. I sneaked a glance down at Adrien, who looked like he was getting stabbed in the back when Luka had asked me. I felt upset that he was with Kagami in the first place. Maybe Adrien and I just weren't meant to be after all... Maybe this is a good thing.
"That sounds lovely. We can stop my my house and grab a few snacks before we go?" I saw a mixture of fear and dread wash over Adriens face when he heard me say that. Luka was the opposite. He blushed and turned red, like he got a smile slapped on his face.
The bell rings for class to end and I start to walk out with Luka. I hear Adrien trying to dismiss Kagami, and I get nervous. Oh my god, did he like me after all and I ruined everything? Were we really meant to be together? Did he-
"Hey Marinette." I hear his voice and I feel nervous again. Oh god.
"Oh, h-hey Adrien." I say nervously as I start to stutter and blush. Adriens green eyes are ravishing in compliment to his blonde hair. I can see Luka trying not to get jealous. Wait, why would Luka be jealous of Adrien?
"Luka," He nods in his direction. "Just wanted to see how you were doing Mari." He smiled at me and I saw Kagami still in the classroom, glaring at me. The tension was so thick it could be cut with scissors. I didn't know what to do. Should I continue to talk to Adrien or should I go with Luka? Oh gosh I'm horrible at m-
"Adrien. We actually can't talk. Marinette and I are going to my house." He seemed defensive of me, I didn't understand why. Luka couldn't have liked me... Could he? "But we'll see you tomorrow. "
"You're going with him? " Adrien looked... Jealous? Hurt? I couldn't honestly tell but I knew he wasn't happy. "Oh, umm, well you two have fun. " He put his hand on my shoulder and gently rubbed it. "I'll see you tomorrow. Bye Marinette, bye Luka. " His tone turned more hard when he spoke to Luka.
He walked down the stairs and walked out the front door, ignoring Kagami and getting into his ride. Luka looked at me a smiled. "Let's head to your house first, right? " I nodded and we walked across the street. We grabbed a couple macarons, some cupcakes, and a few croissants.
"So while we're walking, what do you like to do for fun?" Luka said as he rounded a corner, macaron in hand.
"I like to design outfits. I'm big into fashion. I also like to bake, obviously." I have gotten more nervous the longer we talked, but I started to have a new feeling around him... But I couldn't quite place what it was. "What about you? You like music don't you?"
He smiles and turns to me, finishing his macaron. "Yes, I do. I love to play my guitar and I even write my own music." He looks me straight in the eyes and turns away, blushing.
"I bet they're beautiful Luka. Can I hear one when we get to your house?" I ask him, trying not the let the huge grin on my face show.
"You know, you're a special girl. One like no other. Your smile could light up a room like the brightest star in the galaxy. I- I want you to know that I, I-" He cut himself off and took my hand. It was big and felt comfortable. They were warm and the tips of his fingers were just a little dry. He intertwined his fingers with mine and gave me a little reassuring squeeze.
"Luka I-" I blushed when my brain had finally processed what I had been feeling all along.
I didn't like Adrien, since there wasn't any point in going after someone who barely knew I existed.
I liked Luka.
