A Way Out

Richie stood by the safe with his cracking device, trying to crack the code on it. Seth and I point our guns at Big Jim who is still sitting in a chair, smirking at us.

"Time's running out, isn't it?"

"We got nothing but time, asshole. Your boys think you're in here with your bodyguard. Remember?" Seth said, not in to playing games right now.

Jim rose an eyebrow, "Yeah? How you gonna get out of here, genius? You even think about that?" Seth was silent, his eyes drifting off somewhere. Big Jim scuffed, "Just like a couple of Geckos. Not only can you not see the forest for the trees, you can't see the bear that's in the woods that just took a shit on your head."

I quickly spoke up, "Well then, lucky for them, I'm not a Gecko."

Jim looks at me, "So you got a plan?"

Smirking, I shrug, "It usually comes to me as I go."

Nodding, as if taking that as an answer, Jim looks back at Seth. "How about I just smash this table right over your melon-fucking-head for you?"

"What did you say to me?" Seth asked, taking a step towards Jim.

"I said you're a couple of shit-for-brains! And your girl's a little bitch!"

Seth grabbed Jim's shirt, pushing the gun right up to his head, "Okay."

Richie quickly spoke up, "Hey! What are you doing? It's the labyrinth, man. Killing Boss Hogg might be the wrong move. Don't let it push your buttons."

Seth hesitated at first, keeping his spot for another minute before letting Jim go and lowering his gun. He quickly moved over to Richie, causing me to stand right in front of Jim and keep my gun aimed at him.

"Well, maybe I'll let it show me the truth from inside your screwed-up head," Seth said to Richie angrily.

"What are you talking about?" Richie asked annoyed.

Seth stared at Richie for a second, "You killed dad. He didn't burn up on the couch. You doused him with lighter fluid while he was drunk." My eyes moved away from, glancing over at Seth and Richie as I listened. Richie didn't agree or disagree, "Is it true?" Again, no answer so Seth asked again, "Is it?"

Richie looked right at Seth with a blank stare, almost annoyed in a sense, "Yes. Now will you let me get back to work?"

I can't believe Richie, and by the look on Seth's face, neither can he. My attention was turned away from Jim, revealing why what happened next was my fault. Jim grabs the gun out of my hand before standing up and spinning me around. He holds me close to him, pointing the gun at my head.

"Seth," my voice comes out shaky.

At hearing his voice, Seth turns to look at me, noticing the situation I'm in, and quickly raising his gun at Jim. Quickly, Jim moves me in front of him, keeping Seth from shooting.

Richie unlocks the volt, opening it to look inside.

"Look at that. Even a blind squirrel finds an occasional testicle, doesn't he?" Jim says, his smirk heard in his voice.

An idea comes to mind, a stupid one, but one none the less. My eyes stay on Seth, giving him a small nod before back heading Jim. His hand lets me go and I duck down, holding the back of my head as Seth lays a few bullets in him. His body falls back in the chair still, death taking him over.

Seth quickly moves over to me as I squint in pain.

"Jesus. What were you thinking?" Seth says, making me look at him.
