Rain pounder down on the rooftops, the gloomy weather meaning that many were staying somewhere safe and dry. A she-cat lay in her owners home, having just recently kitted.

She go up to get some food which was next to the back door. She started to eat when she heard a slight whimper from outside the door through the cat flap.

The she-cat looked through the flap to see a small puppy had been abandoned. The pup didn't look even a week old and hadn't even opened its eyes yet.

The she-cat felt sympathy towards the small pup and picked it up by its scruff and carried it inside. It let out some whimpers but didn't move too much.

The she-cat lay the pup down next to one of her kits which was a black and white kitten. The pup lay there sniffing as the she-cat had to gently guide the pup towards her belly with her paw.

When she felt how cold the pup's fur was, she started to lick it to warm the small pup up. After the pup had been warmed up, it started to feed on the she-cats milk. She purred and curled her tail around her kittens and the pup.

"Hey Mittens. Look what I found" Mercury barked, nudging a ball of yarn over to the back and white cat. Mittens looked at the yarn and started to bat at it while Mercury watched in excitement.

When Mittens batted the yarn over towards Mercury she bat at it for a bit  before nudging it back over to Mittens. She ended up tangled in the yarn as Mercury tried to help her.

While they were doing this, a family walked in, looking for a kitten. They saw Mittens and Mercury and asked why a dog was playing with a cat. "My cat found her in the rain and took her in and she's just treated her like one of her kittens. I think that Mercury thinks that she is actually a cat" the owner replied.

"We'll take both of them then" the new owner explained. The breeder nodded and picked up both Mittens and Mercury. They were given to their new owners and taken to their new home.

When they arrived, they instantly started to explore the house, occasionally getting into a little play fight.

After a few years, Mittens and Mercury has been abandoned by their owners. Mittens had been declawed during the time that they were with their owners so she wouldn't be able to properly defend herself unless she used her teeth.

Mercury agreed to stay with Mittens to help protect her and the two started to live on the streets, working together.
