Piper stared out the window of the admissions office while her mother talked to the woman behind the desk. " I don't really know where else to go" she heard her mom saying. " Piper has never really fit in at most schools and I was heard that this place would cater better to her needs." Piper sighed. It wasn't that she had any mental illnesses or anything, she was just had really bad luck. wherever she went disaster always seemed to follow. But the final straw for her mom had been the incident at her last school, which had started with her playing with a toothpick because she was bored in class, and ended with the room up in flames.
The woman turned to Piper and smiled. "So Piper, what did you think of Albaleth Academy today?" "I was pretty nice." Piper answered. And it was true. Everybody was nice and it seemed like an okay enough place to live. Still though, she couldn't shake the feeling that everyone was hiding something from her and she didn't know why. " Well then." The woman said " It looks like we might have a new student. My name is Ms. Bently. Follow me Piper there is one last thing we need to do and then I will show you to your dorm."
They walked out of the office and into the main hallway. Ms. Bently turned to Piper "Wait here just a moment. There is someone you need to see" She walked away. Piper was too busy looking around so she didn't notice three girls walking in her direction until she accidentally ran into them. "I'm so sorry!" she apologized and bent down to help them pick up their things. "It's fine" The girl right in front of her said. Piper looked up; the girl looked about her age and had brown hair that she had pulled up into a ponytail and was wearing a purple T-shirt and jeans. Piper held out a hand "Hi! I'm Piper" She said cheerfully. "Piper..." The brown haired girl repeated as if she wanted her to continue. "Piper Mansfeld.?" She said confused. Comprehension suddenly dawned on the girls face making Piper only more confused. "Yeah," The blonde girl to her left piped up " But what's your m--" She was cut off as the brown haired girl elbowed her. Well it's nice to meet you Piper." the brown haired girl said "My name is Grace and this is Isabelle," she said gesturing to the blonde girl "and Marin." Grace finished pointing toward the the girl on her other side who had black hair and a Tye-Dye shirt. "Anyway we better get going. See you around Piper." And with that the three girls left.
Just as they rounded the corner of the hallway, Ms. Bently came back into view a old woman in a large peacoat tottering along behind her. Without saying a word to her the old woman grabbed Piper's hands and closed her eyes. After about fifteen seconds she dropped Piper's hands, turned to Ms. Bently and said, "your right she in a Mage. Generation one. Now if you'll excuse me I should get back to my reading." Then she turned around and walked away.
Piper was very confused. what did she mean Mage? Ms. Bently turned to her and said, " Well Piper it's official you are a magical being." "I'm sorry, What!?" Ms. Bently sighed "This is going to sound very strange to you but you are a Mage. This means that you were born with a magical soul and have powers. Your are a generation one, which means that you are the first in your family to have a magical soul. Albaleth Academy is a school for magical beings like you."
The more Piper thought about it it did sort of make sense but she still couldn't believe it " If this is true can you do magic?" Ms. Bently held up her hand and as she did a little tornado started to appear in her hand. "Satisfied?" She asked. "If that's all then you can head off to your dorm. The room number is twenty four. I look forward to seeing you at your welcoming feast." hen she turned on her heel and walked away leaving Piper with a ton of questions.
