2. The Welcoming

As Ms. Bently walked away Piper was left standing in the middle of the hallway, unsure of what to do next a few minuets later a boy dressed in dark green came up to her. He had brown hair that came down just below his ears and pale blue eyes. 

"Hi," he started "are you Piper Mansfeld? I'm supposed to take you on orientation." 

"Yep that's me" Piper replied. 

He visibly relaxed. "Great! My name is and here are your books" He held up a large pile of ancient looking textbooks. "Sorry you have to have used ones."

"It's Fine" Piper said. "So, how long have you gone to  Albaleth?"

"Since I was twelve. Now how about we take these books up to your dorm and I can take you on a tour of the school. does that sound okay?" 

Piper nodded. "Sure." As they walked down the hallway a comfortable silence fell between them and for a while they just walked, Piper taking in her surroundings, and Cedric a few steps ahead. a few minutes and many confusing hallways later the two found themselves in front of room twenty-four.

"Well, here we are" Cedric said and stepped back to let her in. Piper stepped inside and she saw Grace, the girl from earlier today!"

"Piper? Your my new roommate?" Grace questioned.

"Yeah, I think so." She looked around. It was a rather plain looking dorm room considering she was at a magic school, there were two beds against either wall and two desks at each end. Grace's side of the room had nature posters and a green and purple bedspread. Piper looked at the other side of the room and saw that all her bags were already there sitting on the floor next to the bed which was now hers. 

Cedric spoke from the front of the room "Um Piper? We better get going if we want to finish your tour of the school before the welcoming feast."

"The welcoming feast?" Piper questioned

"The welcoming feast is a special feast held in your honor. Everyone gets one on their first day." Cedric said.

They left the room.  they went through the old country mansion checking out classrooms,  common rooms,  and the library, until they had seen most of the school. Cedric was explaining how you have a different practice room depending on what type of magic you have, when the hall started shaking

"What is that?!" Said Piper alarmed.

Cedric was struggling to keep calm "I'm sure its nothing."  The shaking was getting worse and panicked voices were sounding from down the hall. and Piper was really starting to freak out when as suddenly as it has started the shaking stopped. "Well, that was weird." Cedric stated 

"No kidding" Piper replied. They cautiously set off down the hall to the great hall. The great hall, according to Cedric was where all the feasts took place and is a school wide common space. 

"Well here we are" Cedric said and pushed open the doors. About fifty students were sitting at a long table talking and laughing with each other. "you can sit anywhere you like" he said before darting off to sit with some of his friends. 

Piper was unsure of where to go when she heard a voice calling her name"Piper! Over here!" It was Grace waving her over and clearing a spot for her to sit. Relived, Piper went over to where she was sitting and talking to Isabelle, Marin , and a girl she didn't know. "Hey Piper," Grace said as she sat down "You already know Isabelle and Marin, but I don't think you've met Tea. She is a moon mage, gen 7, pretty powerful."

"Wait, what do you mean "gen 7" 

"Oooh" Grace said. "Sorry, I forgot you didn't know. Your generation means how many ancestors you have that also had magic. It generally dictates what kind of magic you have. Because you are a gen 1 you are probably going to be a witch of some sort.  I am a gen 4 and a earth mage. Isabelle and Marin are both gen 3, Isabelle is an air mage and Marin is a water mage."

They all talked for a while. when the feast was over they all went to bed. As Piper layed down and stared at the celing she only had one thought in her mind. This is going to be the best school year ever.
