It's been two weeks since Lance and I met. Two weeks, people.Since then, my life has been pretty much the same. Attending classes, studying with Mere, wine and cheese nights on Mondays, and the occasional meet up with Lance.
But, nothing too exciting.
I mean, over the past two weeks that we've hung out together, Mer and Oliver have been there. I like double dates but geez, give a girl a break.
As I'm walking into the science building in the 75 degree weather, my phone dings in my hand. I bite my lip and smile as Lance's name flashes across my lock screen.
My 8 am class got canceled. I'm heading to the caf to get a coffee. Want anything? Where are you? I'll bring it to you.
Lucky :/ Sure, if you don't mind! I'll have a tall Mocha Latte! I'm headed to the science building. Thank you kindly :)))
I'll meet you in the quad. My anatomy class is in that building. See you then.
My biology class doesn't start until 8:30 so I have time. I sit down on the top step outside of the science building, scrolling through Instagram when I notice a shadow. Thinking it's Lance, I look up with a smile on my face, but it quickly falls. Zane.
Zane, the guy who dumped me on my front porch. The guy I - shit. I quickly stand up and give him a hard stare. "What in the hell are you doing here?" I seethe. He awkwardly smiles, "Josie, hey." I stand there baffled, unable to form words. "Not happy to see me?" He grins. "YOU dumped ME, need I remind you. You have fucking nerve, Zane." I shake my head in disgust as the event from 2 years ago flood my mind.
.Zane sighs and opens his mouth to speak but is quickly caught off by another person. Any other time I would totally be in a puddle at the sight of Lance in a button down, but right now? I'm panicking. Ex-lover versus... potential new lover?? Shit.
Lance ignores the dickwad in front of me and flashes a smile. "For you." He passes me my latte. I slightly nod, "Thanks, Lance." I smile back. He glances at Zane, who keeps glancing between me and Lance. Lance simply nods in greeting.
I inwardly grimace at the awkward situation, "Lance, this is Zane Wilson. He's um..."
"Oh come on Jay," Zane teases. He faces Lance and holds out a hand for Lance to clap. "Josie's ex."
Lance glances at me as I throw a 'go to hell look at Zane. "Emphasis on the ex." I keep my eyes on Zane.
I glance down at my phone and notice that it's almost 8:20 and hold back a groan. I look back up at Zane and then Lance, the latter receiving a much nicer look. Zane, who obviously hasn't gotten the hint, speaks out., "Jay, I was hoping we could talk over dinner."
"Let me think... no, thank you." I twirl around to face Lance. "Thank you again for the coffee. I need it." I whisper.
Lance nonchalantly shrugs, "No problem. Text me later." He whispers back. I shoot Zane an awkward smile as Lance and I begin our walk to class.
Surely my day can't get worse.

Mer lost her shit when I told her later that Zane has apparently transferred. "Zane?? What in the Sam Hell is he doing here?" I sigh, "Yep. He probably broke up with Casey so he saw no point in staying in Fayhaven or wherever he ended up."
