Lounging on the pullout chair on her balcony, Jennie set her full cup of coffee on the table beside her and pulled her book from under her arm. She made herself comfortable on the rickety chair and flipped to her bookmarked page. Reading in the morning had become one of Jennie's routine behaviors. She had done it every morning since she first moved into this apartment complex.

"Who's got your attention today?" She hears the husky voice from the balcony next to hers. She turns to the younger girl and smiles. Lisa Manoban had inevitably made herself a part of this routine, simply because she lived next to her. Most mornings, she would just come out and say a quick 'hello', but others, much like today, she would make an actual effort to converse.

Jennie turns the binding of her thick book towards Lisa. "It's actually really funny," She shares as Lisa squints her eyes and leans over her balcony.

"Infinite Jest.." She reads curiously. "What's it about?"

Jennie turns her attention back to the book, giggling at Lisa's attempt at conversation. "Maybe you should read it," The small girl suggests, fitting the book in one hand as she reaches for her cup of coffee, taking a quick sip.

"Eh," Lisa shrugs, easily resting her arms along the cool metal. "It looks pretty thick."

Jennie smiles again, taking the cup away from her lips and setting it back down next to her. "Your choice," Jennie replies simply, keeping her eyes fixed on the words in front of her. She wasn't trying to be short with Lisa, but these mornings were set aside for her alone time that she liked to enjoy.. well, alone.

"Yeah.." Lisa's comment hung in the wind as she stared down at the parking lot. Her conquest from the night before was getting into her car, offering a hostile glare her way before she left. Lisa politely waved down at her as the car pulled away.

Jennie witnessed the exchange from the corner of her eye, wondering what must have happened between last night and this morning to bring such hostility out of her guest. The younger girl had heard most of what had happened the night before through the paper thin walls separating their bedrooms and she definitely didn't seem upset then.

Lisa made a move to go back inside but the voice of the cat-eyed girl stopped her. "Do you want any cake?" She asked embarrassingly.

The blonde girl turned back around, amused and questioning. "Cake?"

A grin spread across Jennie's face as she stood from her lounge chair and set her book down. She gestured for Lisa to wait a moment while she disappeared inside. Lisa wasn't planning on eating the cake, but she would accept it to be nice. Honestly, cake went against everything she believed in, though she knew Jennie liked to indulge every now and again. For Lisa, fitness was everything. She spent her days as a personal trainer and built her lifestyle around healthy eating and staying in shape. None of her trainees were allowed to have fattening snacks such as cake, but thankfully, Jennie wasn't one her clients.

She reemerged from her sliding glass doors moments later with two thick pieces of double-chocolate cake. Lisa salivated at the sight. She hadn't had cake in over three years since she started her rigorous exercising. Looking at the plate in Jennie's hand, she had the feeling that she would be expected to eat her piece along with the younger girl.

Jennie could see the hesitance in those big brown eyes as she rolled her own. She knew the kind of life Lisa lived. She worked out at least once a day and her meals consisted of everything and anything green, along with the occasional granola bar. At least, that's what she would be snacking on when Jennie watched her leave for work in the mornings.

"Come on, Manoban. One piece of cake will not ruin your perfect body," The shorter girl assured, holding it out for the older girl to take. "You know you want it."
