Ann's eyes flipped open. It was still dark, and the only sound to be heard were slow breaths and a breeze rushing by. She leapt out of bed and put on her brown furred boots. As she bent down, her brown hair got in the way of seeing clearly. She pulled back the two braids and continued putting on the warm boots. She looked around in the room. Crystal's head was facing away from her. All she could see was brown messy hair, affected from moving in sleep. She was covered in her thick animal fur blanket, next to a grayish blue terrible terror with red spikes. His huge eyes fluttered as he slept.
Ann decided to check on the larger dragons that were forced to sleep outside. Ann walked out to see Thunder guarding the entrance as he slept. Thunder was her storm cutter, and her most trustworthy companion. Sleeping nearby was Tic tok, Crystal's zippleback. Her eyes shifted to the gray sky, glowing with a bright moon and twinkling stars. She went back inside, remembering to take her dragon book with her. She was careful not to wake Crystal. Ann snuck outside and into the woods, boots crushing leaves as she passed by. She followed the trail she normally took, aware of which way was safer. She was aware of the dangers that can lurk in the woods, since she came almost every night.
She felt safe and protected in the familiar forest, but nothing made her happier then staying with Thunder. She decided to leave Thunder at home so he could catch up on his sleep. But she was okay being on her own, as long as she took the right path. He was still tired from a long day of training and she didn't want to wear him out to much. Ann looked around, staring at the swaying branches and rustling leaves. The silence of the forest was calming for Ann. She took in a deep breath of fresh air and smiled. She ran through the wood, feeling the ground beneath her feet. She spread her arms out and closed her eyes feeling the wind on her face. This is what it meant to truly be free.
The feeling brought back memories from her childhood. When she was younger she would run around the town pretending she was a dragon. She would get weird looks from the other kids but she didn't care. She was free after all. In her heart she was a dragon and no one could change it. She made her way to the clearing where she went to too relax. There was no need for sight, she let her soul guild her. She knew it by heart, it was one of her most favorite places to be. She opened her eyes and stopped in her tracks. Growling. The sound of death. Her eyes widened, fear clinging to her soul. The freedom she felt fell away just like that.
In the clearing, standing before her was the unholy offspring of lighting and death itself.
