Matthew

I love the fall.

Ever since I was just a kid, I loved it. There was something about the crunchy leaves, cold air, and calming scenery that used to change my moods from sadness to happiness.

When I had to avoid my family, specifically my dad and brothers, I escaped into the woods behind the McZonald. If you went far enough, you'd find a clearing. It was my secret hideout. I was away from expectations, bullies at school, and the unmentionables  at home.

When I was six years old, I went there on a Saturday after dealing with my father. I started hearing some rustling in the bushes a  few feet from me. I laid still and closed my eyes as I awaited my doom. Suddenly, I felt something wet on my face... slobber?

I opened my eyes to see a small wolf looking down at me. His fur was so black, the fur didn't even change color in the sun. And his eyes... they were a calming color of purple. I sat up to have a better look at him. He- yes he- stared asking me why I was here. For a while, we just stared at each other. Then he crawled over to me; slowly, as if he was afraid to touch me. I reached out hesitantly could almost reach him until-

A loud howl sounded and the little wolf's ears perked up. Reluctantly, he walked away and with a single turn of his head, he left.

And for years, I've missed those purple eyes.

Those beautiful lilac gems that attracted me from the start.
