You could hardly believe Christmas was almost here. Just two days away. And to think you would spend it in Tennessee...
That's right; your new home would be out here, in the thick snow of the countryside. Your mother had gone through a pretty bad divorce with your neglectful father and had decided to restart her life in her birthplace, the rural farm community of Twobridge. Although she had no farm of her own, she had friends there in the Bakers, a family that lived here for many generations. You, who had never lived somewhere other than the city, was going to have to get used to having to drive a mile or two to just go to the nearby town. Not to mention having to leave all your friends behind...
However, this new home had pros, too. For a start, the air was pure and the scenery wide and soothing, with fields and woods to walk in and no blaring horns.
The night had fallen on the town as you got out of the general store, a bag of small presents in one arm and some letters from your friends in the other. You were walking carefully so as not to trip over, when you heard carolling in the distance...
Soon, an old-looking red truck passed besides you, filled with young adults, teens and children singing ''Deck the Halls''. The truck suddenly came to a stop as the chubby face of an old man smiled at you.
''Hello, Miss, care for a ride? Ya look like ya struggling!''
You smiled back and nodded, walking closer to the gentleman. He eyed you curiously ''Say, Ah believe Ah've never seen you 'round here, before. What's ya name, miss?''
'' (First Name), (First Name) (Last Name).'', you answered.
'' (Last Name)? Well, you must be (Your Mother)'s daughter, she talked about you often! My name is Charles Baker. Welcome and Merry Christmas! Hop in the back, my grandson Billy is here!''
You thanked Mr. Baker, placed your bags in the cockpit and climbed aboard in the back. Billy was a young man of about your age with short red hair and green eyes. Sitting next to him was his girlfriend Emily with same hair but blue eyes and another young woman you didn't know about.
She was a little smaller than you were, with boyish short, messy auburn hair, sparkling dark eyes, a red scarf tied in a bow and a mischievous smile that belonged more to a four-years-old girl than a twenty-something miss. She moved over for you to sit next to her.
''So, you are the daughter of Mr. Baker's friend? Wow! She must be so nice! I can't wait to finally meet her, did you know that Billy's family knew her when she was young?-'', she suddenly stopped with a surprised expression, as if she remembered something important, ''Oh, nuts! Where are ma manners? Annabelle's the name!'', she grinned as she extended a hand to shake.
''Nice to meet you, Annabelle. I'm (First Name).''
You had to admit she was cute, like a toddler. Soon, the carolling resumed as you happily sang along...Maybe you were going to like Twobridge, after all...
