Robyn POV
444amI arrived to New York in the early morning. I waited at the train station for my brother because he had told me to wait there. I breathed heavily as another stranger passed by. I could see my breath because it was so cold.
A shadow of a man approached me from the back and grabbed my bag. "Can I help you with that", my brother Rajad said as he smiled. "Rajad!", I yelled as I hugged him. "I missed you", he said. "I missed you too", I replied.
He helped me put my bags into his car and we drove to his apartment. "Wow NY is so big", I said as I examined the buildings through the window. "I know, traffic in the morning is terrible", He said.
"Have you found a job yet?", I asked. He nodded. "I work at some corner store", He said. I nodded. "Hey so your probably wondering why I asked you to come over.."., Rajad started. I looked at him with a Uh yeah face. "And your probably gonna be mad when I tell you...", he continued.
I glared at him, prepared for whatever were to come next. "You see, NY is home to so many famous people.. Jay Z, Biggie, Diddy and I know you like to sing and your amazing at it...I just, I.. just thought you should come over here and start trying to make it in the music business", he said. "Are you serious with me right now?", I said.
"What..sounds like a good idea no?", he said. "GOOD IDEA? YOU MADE ME LEAVE ALL OF MY FRIENDS WHO I MIGHT NEVER SEE AGAIN ALL BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT I SHOULD PURSUE THE MUSIC BUISNESS!", I yelled. "Well, I'm sorry. I was just trying to help", he said.
I grabbed one of my bags and yelled into it. Rajad glanced over. I sighed. "It's okay", I finally said. "Good because I signed you up to audition for Jay Z and his label", he said. I chocked.
"YOU WHAT?!", I screamed. "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND. JAY Z ONE OF THE BIGGEST RAPPERS OUT RIGHT NOW. YOU THINK I HAVE ENOUGH TALENT FOR HIM??", I continued to yell. "Well, yeah your really good", he said. I laughed.
"Really good isn't good enough for Jay freaking Z. You need to be beyond really good", I said. He sighed. "You need to cancel that audition", I said in a serious tone. "I am NOT canceling that audition", he said. "What do you mean, 'Your not canceling that audition?'", I said with air quotations as I mimicked him.
"Well even if I could, I cant..what's done is done", he said. I screamed into my bag again as I kicked with my feet. "Aye chill your gonna ruin my car", he said. "Whatever, I..I'm not going. Sorry but I cant do it", I said.
He laughed. "Oh your going going Robyn.", he said. I shook my head no. "Hmm we'll see about that", he said with a smile on his face.
I looked at him annoyed. HE doesn't know what I want. HE doesn't know what's good for ME. HE shouldn't have done that.
Rajad turned the radio on to limit the awkwardness of the silence. As he turned the volume up Jay Z started playing. "This could be you someday, maybe even featured on one of his songs", he said. I laughed.
"You just dont get it do you?", I said. "What do you mean", he asked. I sighed for like the millionth time today. "Not everyone makes it into the music business and if they do their lucky enough to get one hit. You dont know what I want and for you just to do this was just ugh.. I dont know okay? I'm stressed right now", I said as I rubbed my temples.
"I understand I think, I'm sorry I shouldn't have done this", he said. "If you want you can just not show up.." "no. Just like you said what's done is done. BUT because you got me into this mess, your going to have to help me practice for this audition", I said. He smiled. "Of course I will", he said.
"Good", I said smiling. He pulled into his driveway and parked. I got out of the car and stretched. Rajad grabbed my stuff and led me to his apartment. Once we got inside I examined the room.
"Not bad", I said. He smiled. In the left corner there was a sofa bed and a mattress, then there was a small kitchen with a small bathroom to the side. "It's a studio apartment if you didn't already notice", he said. I nodded.
"So I'm just gonna settle down on this mattress if you dont mind...", I said. "Oh no no no. That's where I sleep. Your gonna sleep on the sofa bed. I just bought it a couple days ago just for you", he said.
"Really? Awe thanks", I said. I unpacked my blankets and set them over the sofa. "Hmmm how about a midnight snack?", Rajad asked. "Cookies?", I said. "You already know", he said while pulling out a box of soft chocolate chip cookies. "Oh my gaaaa the soft ones too", I said as I smiled. He laughed.
"ok but do you have milk", I said. "Uh duh", he said as he took out soy milk. "Don't worry it literally tastes just like cow milk", Rajad said. I nodded.
Rajad heated up the cookies on the stove and poured two cold glasses of milk. Everyone knows warm cookies with cold milk is better than warm milk and cold cookies..just sayin'.
I grabbed my glass and my cookie and sat on the sofa bed. He then followed and sat beside me. "So rihrih you never told me about your time in Detroit", he said. "Why does everyone call me Rih now?", I asked. "Idk but all I know is I gave you that nickname first", he said.
I laughed. "Sooo about your time in Detroit?", he said. "This will take a while, its a looooong story", I said. "You tired yet?", he asked. I shook my head no. "Then we got time, I ain't gotta go to work for the next three days cuz I took them days off to spend time with you so talk to me", he said. I took a deep breath in and started explaining to him everything.
