I found my hall, of course, I am 30 minutes late. I made my way to the door and entered the class ignoring the glare from the lecturer who looked annoyed at my presence, that interrupted his lecture.
The fact that I am late and walking so leisurely, infuriated him. I looked around to look for a seat, realizing that the students were staring and whispering to each other indistinctly.
I found a seat which was close to a dark-skinned, curly-haired girl she smiles at me and is ushering me to come sit next to her. I then realized that the "douchebag" I met earlier this morning in the hallway is sitting right behind that seat.
Rather than chooses seat closer to the front, I took the one she offered. The last thing I wanted is to be in the instructor's direct line of sight. I walked over to my seat with the devils' accomplice sitting right behind me. We are course mates, well this is about to get interesting.
The brown curly hair girl introduced herself, she extended her hand for a handshake, she spoke undertone.
"Hi, I'm Jean," I answered her with a nod and said "I'm Adriana but you can call me Adri.", smiling back at her, taking in her outstretched hand.
Only for us to be interrupted by him."You realize it's bad manners to talk during class right, princess." He whispered as he got close to the back of my ear. If he was an insect I wouldn't hesitate to kill him with my hand.
"Then why are you talking," I replied back in a sarcastic tone.
"Cause you are talking, princess."
"Stop calling me princess. I told you not to call me love, so you decided princess was an alternative. Do you need your ears cleaned or something." saying as quietly as I could.
"Well, you can do it for me since we are friends now." He replied back causing me to turn and look at him.
"Friends? since when. I don't even know you. And no thank you, I wouldn't like to be friends with your arrogant self.", resisting the urge to say "ass" instead of self.
"Do I know you? Oh yeah, I do. The girl who told me that I had an ego and that my head couldn't take anymore. So yeah, that's evidence enough to say you know someone." He said rephrasing what I said in the hallway today.
"Well, since you have such a good memory. Then why don't you take my advice and go to the hospital to have some of that ego disposed of." I said with a smirk.
"You hurt me, princess," he said while touching his chest feigning hurt.
I rolled my eyes and kept my focus back on the topic that is being taught. I ignored all the noises that he was making behind me to get my attention, Jean sat there looking surprised at our interaction.
Jean and I have the same lunch break, at least for today. She seems cool, she is the bubbly type or should I say happy- go- lucky kind of person, we are direct opposites. She is average in height, our height difference is discerning, she has dark brown eyes and, her curly hair looks really thick, you can see she was naturally born with it.
As we sat down to have lunch. Jean suddenly said "He is looking here"
"Who?" I asked curious of the whom she was speaking of with such a tone.
"Tyler Ray, over there," She said, staring at a particular direction I followed her gaze only to find out, she is talking about him.
"Is that his name?" I asked a little too fast and she replied with a nod.
"He is so hot. Isn't he?"
"Hot? I don't know about that" I said, which I knew I was obviously lying "But his character isn't hot"
"Do you know who he is?" She said looking surprised.
"Who is he? This is the second time I am hearing this; do you know who he is. Something tells me, I don't want to know but tell me anyway," I said, leaning into the table with my arms folded.
She looked at me as if I had been diagnosed with a serious illness but she spoke anyway.
"That's Tyler Ray he is the last person in this college you would want to mess with," She said and his words replayed back in my head. Don't mess with me.
"He is a gang leader. From what I have heard so far about him, their gang is really popular on this campus. His friends, he mostly moves around with are those two" She said as she tried to point them out because she didn't want them to see we were talking about them "Cullen and Marvin. Tyler is one you should stay away from but I think that won't be possible because he keeps staring here and at you in particular. They are really well known here it's like they created a reputation for themselves since high school, so most people here have seen them before"
I just took in everything she just said and proceeded to ask her this,
"This sounds so unrealistic, Are you sure that's the only reason why they are popular around here?" I looked at her doubt evident on my face.
"I heard they have history, but I really feed my curiosity on what people they schooled with tell me"
"Fair enough"
"I'm not one to dig up information about them, I'm not that interested anyway, You know," she said.
"Well, that makes two of us," I added, but I was still curious, I just brushed it off. I have enough things to think about and I'm not about to add this to my list.
We then continued to talk about something else. I really liked her attitude, I think I was going to like her as a friend.

When I reached my house, I held the doorknob and realized that the door was opened. I am surprised because my mom doesn't come home at this time. I entered and saw my mom stretched out on the couch still in her work clothes.
Sensing that someone had entered the room, she wailed herself off the seat, when she realized I am the one, she laid back down and murmured in a hoarse voice.
"Oh, Adri it's you. How was school?"
Ignoring her question I moved straight to where she lay and touched her forehead with my palms and it was steaming hot. I let out a sigh of worry, "Mom, are you okay? Let me take you to the hospital. Wait let me go get changed first."
She held my wrist stopping me from moving. She raised herself up as she straightened herself on the couch and said "No, I'm okay I just came home to lie down for a while and then go back to the office. I'm fine Adri-"
I cut her off from speaking any further. I don't want to hear any more of what she had to say. "You're not fine Mom. We are going to the hospital. Forget about work, I'm already going to call Freddy to talk to your boss on your behalf, he will understand. I'm not going to allow you this time." She tries to speak again, but I am long gone, away from her gaze. I raced upstairs, changed into something casual and headed downstairs.
She always doesn't think much about her health, and that causes me to worry. She worked so much and I tell her to relax sometimes because I work too. Even though the money my job offers isn't that much, at least it is enough for both of us.
