~ Thomas' P.O.V. ~

"Today's the big day, Burr," I said, tugging on my magenta bow tie.
"Yup, sure is. You nervous?" He asked, watching me mess around with my hair in the mirror. I stopped and smiled at myself.
"Nah."
"Excited?"
"Well, yeah, I mean, how could I not be?" I scoffed, turning to my friend. "It's not like I'm marrying the sweetest man in the world, or anything." I saw him roll his eyes and smile. Burr was the first person I told about my crush on James. Now, he's sitting in my dressing room as I get ready to marry said crush. Funny how things work out, isn't it? Suddenly, I heard the door open. A man popped his head into the dressing room.
"Mr. Jefferson? You have fifteen minutes to be at the altar,"
"Ah, thank you," I said, fidgeting with the hem of my shirt. I waited until he closed the door, then sat down with a sigh.
"What's wrong, pal?" Burr asked.
"I, um," I paused. "I may be more nervous than I thought." I looked down at my lap, ashamed.
"You're not getting cold feet, are you?" He asked, frowning.
"What? No! I mean," I sighed. "I don't know." I heard Burr's chair slide against the floor as he got up, his footsteps clicking towards me.
"Jefferson." I looked up at him. He grabbed me by the shoulders and gave me an intense stare. "I did not stay up past midnight every Friday to listen to you gush about James over the phone during the entirety of high school for you to get cold feet. Everything is okay, Thomas. You're about to marry the love of your life! There's nothing to be afraid of." He let go of my shoulders and smiled. "I'll be right behind you the whole time." Not gonna lie, I started to tear up a little. I stood up and hugged Burr, trying to contain the waterworks.
"Thanks, best man." Burr let go of me.
"No problem. Now you get your ass out there, and marry that man!" I smiled, feeling more confident and pumped up than ever.
"Yeah! I'm ready!"
...
"I'm not ready." I looked around the church from the altar and saw James' family staring at me. I gulped. I then looked to see my family. My mom waved excitedly at me, phone in hand, recording every moment. I awkwardly waved back. I then saw my aunt already weeping. Yikes.
"Nonsense, you'll be fine, dude." Burr whispered to me.
"Ugh, when is he gonna come out? I'm so nervous! Can't we just get this over with already?" I whispered, rocking back and forth on my heels anxiously.
"Hey man, chill out," Burr said, stopping me with a grab of my shoulder. "This is a special day, one you can't re-live. Treasure it. I remember how nervous I was when Theodosia and I got married, but it was all worth it to be able to wake up next to her every morning." He smiled lovingly to his wife in the pews, and she smiled back at him. I gotta admit, he was right. I couldn't wait to spend every day with James. Suddenly, the organ started playing. Everyone quieted down, including me. All I could think of in that moment was how much I hoped that black tux wouldn't show how much I was sweating. Yeesh, what did James see in me? The big doors at the end of the walkway swung open, and the flower girls made their way down the white-carpeted path, tossing magenta and blue rose petals out of their baskets. Watching them float gracefully to the floor brought a smile to my face, reminding me of James and I's first kiss under the flower petals in the park. I was becoming more and more confident. I just couldn't wait to see James - and I didn't have to. James stood in the large doorway, linking arms with his mother. He was wearing a white tuxedo and a blue bow tie, and looking straight at me with a huge smile. My heart stopped, and everything else seemed to as well. Suddenly, all I could see was him. My man. My almost-husband. My dream come true. All of my anxiety vanished. The thoughts of James' family, my appearance, and my aunt's loud sobs departed from my mind, and all there was was him. I watched as he and his mother made their way towards the altar, James looking down every once in a while with a smile and a pink tint in his face. His mother was positively beaming. I've never seen her smile before. Next thing I knew, my love was standing right in front of me. I smiled nervously, my face hot. James grinned at me and took my hand. I studied his glowing expression fondly, and took his other hand, squeezing it. The priest started to talk, but I just couldn't listen. How could I when my future was standing right in front of me at the altar, holding my hands in his? I just knew, looking into his hickory eyes, that our future together was bright.
"Do you, Thomas, take James to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The priest said, snapping me out of my trance.
"I do," I replied eagerly.
"And do you, James, take Thomas to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"Yes. Yes, I definitely do," James said, making my heart soar.
"Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and husband. You may kiss the groom."
Before I could even blink, I was dipped to the ground, my fluffy hair almost touching the altar. James, who was much shorter than me, was holding most of my body weight in his arms. Damn. I looked up at him to see a loving smirk on his face, then felt his lips press onto mine, and fell in love all over again. Closing my eyes, I wrapped my arms around James' neck, and the cheers from our families muffled.

Here's to our future as Thomas and James Jefferson.

(Finally finished! This was a really fun story to work on, and I'm honestly pretty surprised to still see people reading it! Thank you so much, everyone. I love you all. <3)
