Sylvia took a step back in shock and grabbed Amelia's hand as the monster's body fell at their feet. Sylvia looked up from the body to see a person. Standing slightly behind the body was a man. He had a machete in his right hand that was covered in some type of liquid substance that she guessed was the monsters blood. His face was spotted with, what she hoped was, freckles. He had some type of uniform on, but Sylvia couldn't see what kind it was.
"Are either of you hurt?" The stranger asked glancing down to Amelia and then up to Sylvia. Amelia shook her head no, wiping the tears from her face. "No, I don't think so." Sylvia spoke coming out of her reverie. "Let's get you two somewhere safe, huh?" The man rose his eyebrow, offering to take one of the bags from Sylvia. "T-thank you for saving us. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't come along." Sylvia thanked the man. "It's no problem. I'm Gabriel Hendrickson by the way." The now named stranger introduced himself. "I'm Sylvia Dawson, and this is my daughter Amelia" Sylvia smiled her daughter. "Nice to meet you girls. Come on let's get going." Gabriel smiled at the two and started walking down the street.
"Where are we going?" Sylvia asked after a while of walking when she noticed that Gabriel suddenly turned to walk into the woods that surrounded the town they were previously in. "Once the broadcasts started a group of my friends and I started to gather as many materials that we could. We found an abandoned compound out in the middle of the forest. We've been making trips out into towns nearby and helping anyone out if they needed it." Gabriel explained as he watched Sylvia lift Amelia over a tree stump that was too big for her to climb over. "Momma how much longer?" Amelia asked glancing up at her mother. "Only a little longer baby. I think we're almost there." Sylvia glanced towards Gabriel, who nodded his head while glancing around.
The three walked on in silence, Amelia trying her hardest to keep up with the adults long strides Gabriel glancing around, making sure that nothing was following them and Sylvia lost in her thoughts. Amelia glanced up as she noticed Gabriel slow down to a stop and looked around. They were in front of a gate that led to a compound. Gabriel looked at the two girls and starting walking towards the gate. Sylvia grabbed Amelia's hand and followed Gabriel hesitantly.
"Gabriel!" Amelia looked around the area blocked off by the fence and saw a woman running towards them. "Anna!" Gabriel smiled slightly as he fastened his pace towards the gate. "We were getting worried. You were gone for a while." Anna's eyebrows creased in worry as she opened up the gate. "Sorry, hun. I would of been back a lot sooner, but I was on a rescue mission." He chuckled slightly as he glanced at the pair of girls. "Oh! Who is this?" Anna asked smiling at the small child. "This is Sylvia and her daughter Amelia. Guys this is my wife Anna." Amelia took a step towards her mother and hid her face in her pant leg. "Nice to meet you." Sylvia smiled at Anna as they shook hands.
"I'll show you guys around. The others will want to meet you." Anna started walking away, Sylvia grabbed Amelia's hand and walked behind Anna, heading towards the doors of the compound. Gabriel's footsteps heard behind the trio. Entering the compound Amelia looked around at all the people she saw. There were people standing around in small groups having conversations about who knows what, only stopping to look at who had walked in. "Everyone this is Amelia and her mom Sylvia. They'll be staying here with us." Anna announced to the room getting nods and smiles in return. "I'll show you guys where you can stay then I'll give you a tour. How does that sound?" She turned her attention to Amelia and Sylvia. "Sounds good, thank you." Sylvia smiled.
Anna lead them towards a small staircase near the back wall and walked up it. "How many people are staying here?" Sylvie asked curiously, thinking back to the amount of people she saw in the entrance. "I think we're up to 30 now." Anna spoke after a moment of silence. "Are there any kids?" Sylvia asked glancing down at a silent Amelia. "There are a few, but they're slightly older than miss Amelia here." Anna smiled at Amelia who looked up at her as she heard her name being said. "Alright." Sylvia nodded and continued walking behind Anna.
"Here we are. Cell 136." Anna stopped in front of the cell and pushed the door open. "Was this a prison?" Amelia spoke up from in the middle of the cell. "We think it was. We're not exactly sure though." Anna shrugged. "I'll let you settle in. When you get done, head back down stairs and I'll give you a tour of the rest of the place." Sylvia nodded and gave Anna a smile as she walked out of the cell.
"Momma?" Amelia asked as she sat down on the bed. "Yeah sweetie?" Sylvia glanced at her daughter. "What's going to happen now that we're here?" "I don't know. We will hopefully be safe for a while." Sylvia placed her hand on her daughters head lovingly. "What was that thing?" Amelia asked looking down at her shoes. "Whatever it was, it's dangerous." Sylvia told her daughter sitting down beside her. "They remind me of the monsters from my comic book." Amelia smiled slightly. "The Living Dead?" Sylvia asked confused. "Yeah. They remind me of the monsters that escaped from it's cage." Amelia glanced up at her mother. "I guess that's one way of describing them." Sylvia chuckled glancing around the room. "Come on let's go find Anna and have her give us that tour. Who knows maybe you'll like the kids here." Sylvia stood up and held her hand out to Amelia who took it and jumped off of the bed. She was excited about this new adventure into a strange new world.
