The battle of willow creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle?" Mr. Tanner paused, looking around the room until his gaze stopped on his first victim, "Ms. Bennett?"
Bonnie looked up with her mouth agape, before answering sweetly, "Um...a lot?" Bonnie paused as the class laughed, "I'm not sure. Like a whole lot."
Tanner tutted while locking his hands behind him, "Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Ms. Bennett," He paused to watch Bonnie, in full embarrassment, sink down in her chair. "Mr. Donovan."
Matt looked up from his gaze that was set on the back of Elena, "Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?"
"It's ok, Mr Tanner, I'm cool with it." He answered smugly, making even Claire smirk, as she repeated the same answer in her head, 373, if your including civilian casualties.
Mr. Tanner had set his gaze onto Elena, "Hmm. Elena? Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significantly historical events?" Elena held her breath, shaking her head, I'm sorry, I-I don't know."
He leaned his waist against his desk at the front of the classroom, sighing with his arm crossed, "I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break."
Everyone, including Claire, gaped at Mr. Tanner's comment. "Ms. Lockwood," he stated, making Francis hake her thoughts away as she looked up at him, her mouth agape, "Skipping a grade is impressive, how impressive is your history on the great town of Mystic Falls?"
She opened and closed her mouth a few times before answering, "373 casualties, including civilian."
Tanner let out a sigh, "Ms. Lockwood, you may be smart, but you need to check your facts," he paused pushing up off his desk and down the aisle, "There weren't any civilian casualties-"
"Actually, there were 27, sir." A deep voice interrupted from her right, making everyone snap their heads to Stefan Salvatore, "Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. They were wrong. It was a night of great loss."
Stefan jutted his thumb out towards the door, "The founder's archives are, uh, stored in civil hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts. Mr. Tanner."
The class let out a collective 'ohh' as Mr. Tanner smirked at Stefan, who had looked away from Mr. Tanner and at Claire, who smiled at him while mouthing, 'Thank You.' . . . . .
For the month of September, it had grown significantly colder. School had barely started, and Claire found herself dressed in a orange, floral dress topped with a jean jacket- not her smartest moment, a shiver quickly overcoming her as she stood next to the tall, brightly burning bonfire, a cup of sprite in her red, plastic cup.
