There is something behind the grammar, the cover, the title, that is more important than anything. The ideas. They are the blueprint of your story. A story is nothing without them. A story cannot exist without ideas. You need one for a story.
How do I get an idea?
Well, it can come from anything. If you really can't find one and you want an original fiction story, I have three strategies I would suggest. First one is to take a small part of a fictional universe, slowly start making it more and more original until you have a good enough idea. For example, AND YOU CAN NOT USE THIS IDEA OR ANY IDEA I GIVE AS AN EXAMPLE, I took something as small as the Storm shield from Fortnite: Save the World, and made a story about it, then slowly started to make it more original. Here's how I did it. So at first it was fanfiction. The idea was each planet had storm energy and there was a bad guy who was power-hungry and wanted to take over the universe, but he focused on the galaxy for now. There was a solar system that was full of exoplanets that resisted the bad guy. Let's call them the Rebellion. Let's call the bad guy.... Alex. Alex was using the power of two other planets to boost his own. There was a powerful galactic kingdom that could decide the outcome of this. However, no one knew the kingdom had split and become two. Both sides gained one of the the two kingdoms that used to make up the previous kingdom. Now you have a fanfiction idea, you need to ask yourself, how can I make it original? Well I erased everything and anything to do with Fortnite, so all the storm shields and stuff. I then made storm energy, planetal energy. And in the process, invented a new word! I made new allies and made new characters. The second strategy is to pick an object and write a story about it. You could literally write a story about some who used a mechanical pencil since 3rd grade, now he's in 8th grade, and he loses the pencil, and tries to find it. The 3rd strategy is to take your life, change the names of every single thing, then add something that didn't happen. Boom you got yourself a story.
How do I know if my idea is good?
Well, it's good if you can build off of it. A simple idea at the start. If you can grow it, it's good.
