I am woken up by Kylie. Her sweet voice forming my name. I climb out of bed and wrap her in my arms. She has paths down her face, put there by the emptiness and sadness that we both feel. I hold her tight in my arms for a while then pull back and look into her blue eyes. They twinkle in the sunlight. She is so beautiful. I take a deep breath and she does the same. I grab her hand and walk to the kitchen. I make some pancakes. We sit quietly while eating. Then the phone rings, interrupting our silence.

" hello?" I say.

" Hi Kiera, this is your Aunt Sabrina."

" Oh, hello."

"I heard about your mother, I'm sorry. The child services called and said you must come live with me. I will send someone to drive you up here. He should be there tomorrow morning. The drive is about 14 hours. I have already sent him."

"Oh okay. Ummm thank you." I said totally confused with all the information that was just shoved into my head.

"I will see you tomorrow then." And she hung up.

Oh joy, this is going to be great. I sit down and think of how to explain this to Kylie leaving out, of course, the rude Aunt.

"Who was that?" Kylie says in her innocent voice.

"That was uh." I stumble for the right words.

"That was your aunt Sabrina. We are going to go live with her. We are going to leave tomorrow morning." I say, trying to make it sound as positive as possible.

"We have an Aunt Sabrina?" Kylie replied.

"Yes, we haven't met her. But I'm sure she will be lovely." I say through gritted teeth.

"Okay."

"Well maybe you should start packing."

"Okay."

Then Kylie walks up the stair to her room. I hear her close the door, that is when I start crying. I just can't believe we have to leave. I call Sophie, hoping she will help. But she doesn't answer. So I decide to go for a walk. I slip on some shoes and head out. I walk along the road for about 10 minutes before heading back home. I simply cry the whole walk. I cry for mom. I cry for Kylie. I cry for me. I cry because there is nothing left that I can do. Then I remember. Mom could live. She could wake up! I quickly change my pace from a slow walk to running. I get to the door run up the stairs into Kylie's room.

"Kylie! We are going to go visit mom."

Kylie totally shocked just sits there for a while.

"Oh okay." She says. Then I can tell the information sinks in. She remembers and her face lights up. She quickly stands up and gives me a big bear hug. We both start crying. This time tears of hope.

We pack for a couple more hours before we leave for mom. While packing we both imagine getting the news that mom will wake up, that she will live. The more and more we think of it, the more our hopes rise. We think of how when we come home we would bake a cake for her, and stay up late watching the stars.

We both have a permanent smile glued on our faces, nothing can wash it off. When it is time to go, we both try to dress nicely. I put on a simple blue dress and Kylie puts on a skirt and a tank top. We hop into my car and drive off to the hospital.
