Over the years getting to know your colleagues had been easy. You worked at a law firm in the outskirts of Trenton, New Jersey. You began at the age of 18, working for your father, who had owned the business. Now, at the age of 23, your boss, Ethan Dolan, was now the owner. Your father looked up to Mr. Dolan and his brother, but Grayson had different plans in his life than Ethan.

Ethan was now a multi-million dollar company owner. He admired your fathers’ work and promised your father that the company was in good hands with him.

Now, as your father lied atop his deathbed, you continued to file papers for Ethan. He knew how badly you wanted to see your father, but he also knew that you wanted to stay here in order to distract yourself from the fact that the man you looked up to for your entire life was bedridden and could barely get himself to eat his food.

You sighed as you were handed more papers by your fellow coworker, Janet. Janet was around your age, being 24, and was the biggest slut for the man himself. Mr. Dolan.

You could definitely see what she saw in him though, he was pretty attractive. You never saw him in anything other than a black suit with a tie. You remembered when he first started here and could barely manage to tie his tie. Now he’s the owner of this multi-million dollar business.

You moaned and groaned as you sorted through the papers and eventually pulled your hair out of the ponytail that you were required to put your hair in. You sighed and ran your fingers through your hair as you felt the tears coming out of your eyes. You hadn’t ever been this stressed, but you continued to sort through the papers.

“Ms. Y/l/n. Are you alright darling?” You looked up and there stood Mr. Dolan. You nodded and replied, “I’m good. Just stressed.”

Ethan stood there for a minute before telling you-you could go home for the day to see your father. “I have to finish this first. Janet told me it was ‘super important and if I didn’t get it done as soon as possible I’d be fired.’ I kind of need this job, Mr. Dolan.”

“I can get someone else to do it. And it’s Ethan, Y/n.” Ethan stopped and looked around before stopping to look at someone, “Janet! Come on, I got some work for you. Y/n’s heading out.” Janet walked over and nodded, “What do you have in store for me today, Ethan.”

Ethan looked at her before continuing, “It’s Mr. Dolan. I’m your boss, Janet, remember that. I need you to sort through these papers.”

“Which ones?” Janet rested her hand on one of the piles and Ethan looked at you, who had still been sitting in your desk chair. “All of them.”

“But Eth- Mr. Dolan. I’m supposed to be out of here in an hour. How do you expect me to get them all done?”

“I guess you’re gonna have to stay late tonight. Get them done.” And with that Ethan walked away and continued to go off and do whatever work he needed to get done before close. Ethan always stayed late until everyone was done so he could lock all the doors himself.

You picked up the papers you had to bring home and put on your coat. You grabbed your purse and looked through it to find the envelope your father asked you to give to Ethan.
