Chapter 1

"I can't believe that Katherine got hurt like that." Jessie said casually to me. I couldn't tell if she was being actually serious or laughing on the inside. Katherine and Jessie were not friends they were more like enemies. Which made me not fond of Katherine since Jessie was my best friend. "I still don't know exactly what happened." I try not to tense up. I hated when people got hurt at our school, No matter who it was, even Katherine. It made the whole city scared because the city was small and other people could also have the same fate as the person who was hurt. Jessie sighed, "She was in the woods with her parents and they said a bear attacked her. She was found in the pond in the forest. I heard it was a blood fest. Yet she survived. " She sighed again losing interest and walked away from the lunch table. I couldn't stomach the thought of a wild beast attacking her. Chills ran up my spine. Then out of my blind side someone ran up to me. I jumped back. "Penelope, are you okay. You seem jumpy." Ryan teased. He knew how easily scared I always get yet, he popped up on me all the time. "Hello to you Ryan." I managed to reply smiling. Ryan sat down at the table with me. He began to viciously eat his food. Jessie came back looking annoyed at Ryan. She hated how sloppy he ate. It was her biggest pet peeve. "Who invited the pig to the table. " Jessie said looking at Ryan frowning. Ryan just shrugged and licked his burger even more. She just rolled her eyes and sat next to me. "Well I have news . Ruth Pepperman is having a get well party for Katherine and although I despise Katherine, she is having drinks . So we are going." She established giving a devilish smirk. I was not the party type but Jessie was all for parties and she tagged me along to drive her home when she got too wasted. I just groaned. I really had planned on going to the movies this weekend but I couldn't let her go alone. "So I'm invited too." Ryan blurted food particles leaving his mouth. Jessie rolled her eyes but smiled. Ryan grinned showing the food stuck in his teeth. Me and Jessie exchanged glances. Then we bursted into laughter. He just looked at us confused. "What , what is it?" he said. We all started laughing. Everything felt whole and complete. I had my friends and we were laughing together enjoying a lunch. The world was balanced and I felt good. But what I didn't know is what would happen that would change everything.
