ARA POV
I fight not to sleep afraid that when I wake they'll be gone but when I sleep I see their faces and I don't want to leave. When I finally open my eyes, I realize I'm warm. It's been so long that I've wakened warm that I keep my eyes closed a moment to savor it.
"Ara?" I open my eyes to see that Fin is staring at me which means that Duncan is the warmth at my back.
"Yes, Fin?" His eyes glow like fire as he speaks.
"I don't want to see you die again." My eyes look away as I speak. I can't promise that, Fin." He scowls at me just as there is a knock on the bedroom door.
"Master Duncan someone is here for Arabella." I stiffen as my sister's words come back to me. Someone will come to visit. I shoot up in the bed and leap over Duncan to the floor. I'm throwing clothes around when someone touches my shoulder.
"Bella, calm down. It's ok." Throwing clothes everywhere trying to find mine I speak.
"No, it's not. I'm bad. I'm evil. What if they want to take me before the baby is born?"
"Right now, no one can take you anywhere. The curse remember." I bite back a sob as I find my dress and whirl to face Fin and Duncan, clutching it to my chest.
"Not take Duncan. TAKE." I slide a finger across my throat for emphasis as Fin growls. I turn my back to them and throw the dress on as my whole body trembles.
"You don't get it. They can place my girl in someone else. They can take her from me, then kill me." My hands clutch at the end of my dress as someone speaks from the doorway.
"Your really shaky for the Queen of the Dark." Whirling to the now open doorway I see a man standing there. A man I've seen before. Letting out a scream of pure undiluted terror I start to run and slam into Fin. I slam a fist on his chest as I strike him.
"NO! Not him. Not again. Don't make me..." The room pulses around me as my terror spikes and my powers flair.
"Easy before you kill your mate." I freeze at the voice in my ear and turn my head to see the man standing beside me and I realize I have been screaming. I fight back the urge to scream again when I see Duncan laying on the floor behind the man. Tears fill my eyes as I look at the man.
"Please just get it over with quickly. Don't hurt them or my baby." He blinks and draws back as he speaks.
"That's a quick 180 isn't it?" I feel warmth surround me and the man is forgotten as I realize Fin has gone full phoenix on me. I stroke his arm as I speak.
"No Fin. Calm down I'm sorry I won't let him hurt Duncan." Fin flares brighter as the man laughs.
"I doubt it's you he's pissed at. Just for the record I'm not here to hurt her."
"We now demon. We will kill you if you try." The man sobers and glares at Fin.
"There's no need for name calling I didn't choose what I am anymore than she did. I must have a master and I must follow them cause I really don't get a choice. Luckily for you my ownership has changed." I freeze and look closer at the man. It's true he looks healthier than he did the last time I'd seen him and he's talking now.
"You hurt her. She is terrified." I blink and look up at Fin.
"I thought you were mad at me."
"Mate." Well I guess that explains it then. The man steps forward and Fin flares brighter.
"Don't push me demon." The man frowns.
"Phelan, asshole, not demon."
"Asshole then demon." I snort, and Fin looks down at me.
