LONDON 9:30 PM
Alexandria walked into the airport gate feeling queasy and uncertain. Of course, Alexandria didn't show it because Alex never looked anything but confident.
She said her goodbyes to her family and boarded feeling a huge heavy weight float of her chest.
Alex was attending Columbia University's School of Journalism on a half sports, half academic scholarship.
The university was overseas, New York to be exact, thus a long flight had started. Fortunately, the plane had TV's and an infinite supply of Pringles, somethings her track coaches wouldn't approve of but was in fact needed.
After a couple movie's and more than a couple of Pringles cans, Alexandria began to fall asleep would stay asleep till the plane had landed in New York.
A sudden jolt from the plane touching down awoke her, and after a long wait, she was finally able to go to the baggage claim and leave.
After Alex checked in and put her clothes and other items away, she looked around the campus for her classes, which would start in two weeks.
When she returned to her room she changed and left to go to Target and stock up on food, get a chair and a new bed spread along with another list of essentials.
She hoped her roommate would arrive by the time she got back, but she wasn't sure what time the girl would come.
ATHENS 11: 23 PM
Katerina hated the nickname her mother had given her. It was Kate. It wasn't bad, but it was too common. Too common, meaning that when a new girl named Kate came to her school in her Freshman year. The Other Kate became popular and no one remembered Kate.
So she spent her high school years dedicated to a new hobby, the school's newspaper.
Kate's mom and dad said goodbye before she took a cab to the airport, so there were no tears or annoying motivational speeches to do her best. Her family was very emotional and always cried when saying goodbye, even if it was a sleepover. It was college not her funeral.
Kate's ride consisted of two kids on either side of her bouncing up and down, but she just ignored them and ordered some pasta before watching Spongebob on Nick.
After Kate checked in, she hauled her suitcases to the room and was pleased to see her roommate Alexandria or Alex.
"What's your name?" Alex asked excited to see who she would be bunking with.
"I'm Katerina but you can call me...Kat. I'm from Athens."
"Cool! I'm from London..."
Finally, not Kate. Kat thought smiling.
SYDNEY 8:00 AM
"Mom!" Calum and Ashton groaned at the same time.
They were not brothers, but best friends. So were their mothers. Ashton and Calum's families were not poor, but it wad only them and their mom's. Luckily, both of them had saved up since they were young, so they could afford college.
Once the two of them had bored the plane, they quickly found their seats and began their dual game while eating some fried chicken they ordered.
After they played for nearly half a day, they slept for the rest of the flight, including a big patch of rough air, where Ashton and Calum's fried chicken crumbs spilled on their laps.
The the two boys requested a room together so they quickly unpacked to go down to the activities booths and maybe sign up to some clubs.
They called their Mom's first just to check in. They also knew if they didn't, they would get scolded. They didn't mind it though.
