After surviving years of practical jokes, tricorder scans, and many oral exams, it was finally time for Capella to graduate from Starfleet Medical Academy. Too full of excitement, she could barely listen to the commencement address, given by a well-known captain, James T. Kirk.
"We are looking for many new medical personnel to serve on the USS Enterprise this year, and I know there are many exemplary candidates graduating today. We have handpicked two-hundred students to join us..."
Hearing this, Capella was enthralled by all the possibilities. Could she really serve on the Enterprise? She discarded the thought, and continued to try and comprehend the man's words.
After the long ceremony, Capella went back to her dorm one last time to collect her bags, but something that had been slid under the door caught her eye. It was fresh, white envelope. She tore open the crisp edges with a satisfying crinkle and pulled out its contents: a neatly folded piece of paper and a badge of the Starfleet insignia.
A bit apprehensively, Capella unfolded the letter she had found. Turning the smooth badge in her hand, she read to herself,
"Congratulations Capella Eos, you are one of the two-hundred selected graduates of Starfleet Medical Academy chosen to serve on the USS Enterprise. Arrangements have been made for you to beam up at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning. For your training, you will be the apprentice of Chief Medical Officer Leonard McCoy. The Federation awaits your arrival."
Capella couldn't believe what she had just read. This was the Enterprise it was talking about. This was too good to be true! And the Leonard McCoy? She was stunned. Miss Eos knew exactly what she was doing tomorrow...
