Alli Rogers, a fourteen year girl with blue eyes and caramel hair, walked through the high school towards the twelfth  grade hall one fall afternoon, her keen eyes darting around cautiously as if she were afraid someone would see her. She breathed a sigh of relief as an older boy with black leather gloves and a frown stepped out of a class room. She quickened her pace towards him, and noticing her, he smiled and extended his arm to embrace her. "Oh Hal! There you are! I've been looking all over for you!" she said as she leaned into him.
Hal laughed slightly, then looked her kindly in the eye and said, "Alli, you know where my classes are. There is no need to get all worked up! We going to your place, or mine?"
"Mine. There is something they have for us to do when we get there." Alli's face was serious as she took Hal's hand and led him down the hall towards the door. "They said they had a ride ready for us, so we should be able to go inconspicuously." A twelfth grade boy jumped in front of Alli in an attempt to block her way, but Hal jerked her hand backwards just in time. Startled, Alli quickly looked up at Hal then in front of her. She raised her eyebrows, sighed and said, "What is it, Pete?"
"Where are you going in such a hurry, Rogers? To get that tattoo removed?" Pete sneered. He was referring to the dark tan, heart shaped birthmark on the inside of her right wrist, for which she often got teased.
Hal stepped towards Pete and growled, "It's none of your concern."
Pete didn't seem the least bit worried as he gloated, "Aw, does the little girl need a big man to protect her?"
Alli looked at Hal then started walking towards the door. As she passed Pete, she smirked and said, "Nope." as she elbowed him sharply in the stomach. Pete blew out quickly and clutched his stomach. Hal had a surprised and proud look on his face as Alli said, "Come on, let's go."
