A searing pain shot through Alli's head and side and she cried out in agony.
"She's awake!" A voice called. Her eyelids were heavy with weariness, so she could not open them to see to whom the voice belonged.
"Good, good!" Said another voice. Footsteps were heard coming closer to her.
"Hey there. Don't worry, it's me, Hal. I'm right here, Alli." the first voice said comfortingly. Memories were flooding through Alli's head - an explosion, a woman picking her up off the streets and bringing her into a metal room. Then there was another memory of her in an airport fighting someone. All her thoughts were jumbled together and her head stung with pain. She didn't know who she was, where she was or what she was doing there.
Another set of footsteps came closer and someone put a hand on her arm. A second, deeper voice said, "I'm here as well, Alli. It's me, your father. Hal and I are here to help. Can you open your eyes?" Alli struggled to open her eyes, but finally succeeded. She saw two worried faces peering down at her. She was in a bright room with beds and tables all around. There were a few beds that were occupied, and the people in those beds were either resting or talking to visitors. "Good, that's better." Steve said. "Now, if you can talk, can you remember anything that happened before you woke up?" Alli squinted and tried to remember.
"There was an explosion? In an airport? Someone took me through a purple swirly thing?"
Steve and Hal looked at each other, then back at Alli, "Your memories must have gotten jumbled up when you were knocked out." Hal said sympathetically. "Oh well, just rest and regain your strength. Then we can find out more. It's all going to be okay. Don't worry." A face popped into Alli's mind, a face with kind, green eyes the color of jade, and chocolate brown hair, then a name.
"H-Hannah?" Alli whispered, confused.
Steve looked at Alli and questioned, "Hannah? Who's that?"
"The woman who carried me; she told me everything would be okay. Then she walked through a purple door with me. She carried me through a metal place into the purple door. I saw a glimpse of people, they were talking amongst themselves. A male voice said, 'Do you think the bombing was the work of the Joker?'"
Steve's eyes got wide and he pointed to Hal, "Stay here and write down as much information about that dream, or memory, as you can get. I'll be right back."
Hal looked confused but slowly nodded as Steve ran off. "Sooo... what else do you remember?" Hal asked sheepishly.
"Uh, I remember a metal room with big windows revealing a night sky filled with stars. But the moon was very big. There were consoles with screens and lots of buttons and levers. There were doors with pictures of... planets, I think, above them." Hal quickly wrote down all that she told him. "And I don't really remember anymore."
Suddenly Steve came back in with Tony Stark, who had a confused expression on his face. Steve stopped several feet away from the bed, but Tony came and sat down in the chair near the edge of the bed.
"Thank you, Hal." He said as Hal handed him the notes. He quietly looked over them, then turned to Alli. "When did you see and hear these things?"
"When I was a baby, I guess. I mean, that's what I remember at least." Alli replied.
Hal looked at her thoughtfully and said, "Alli, it really is a wonder how you can remember all this, when you were so young."
"I know." Alli said. "I guess it's just part of my powers."
Tony scrunched his brow for a moment, looked at her then looked at the note pad. He lifted his head up and said, "Steve. Come with me. Hal you stay here."
"Yes, sir." Hal replied.
Tony nodded, then got up and walked towards the control room with Steve. About ten minutes later they came back with a screen showing six people on a video chat.
Steve brought the screen over to her bed and asked, "Do any of these people look familiar to you?"
Alli carefully looked from person to person. "Um... no, they don't." Alli paused, then added enthusiastically, "But I do remember seeing that jet!" She pointed to a silver jet in the background. The front of the jet looked a lot like a spearhead; and its two wings extended from the back of the jet and had vertical plates on the tips that acted as landing gear.
Tony turned to the screen and asked, "Well, do you recognize her?"
A man in a red and yellow suit spoke up. "No I don't... Do any of you?" He asked, turning to the others who stood next to him.
"No." said a woman in a red, white and blue suit.
"No, I don't either." said a man in blue and red.
"Do any of you remember anything about a bombing involving The Joker about 12 to 14 years ago?" Tony asked.
The man in red and yellow thought for a while and then replied, "Well, I do remember a hospital being bombed about 14 years ago, but we never could link it to The Joker."
"Wasn't that the night the portal mysteriously came on?" Said a man in a green and black suit.
The woman said, "Yes... yes, it was! What's this all about? Do you know something about the bombing? That crime was never solved."
"No, unfortunately we don't. We have a lot of unanswered questions." Tony paused, then concluded. "Flash, Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern and the rest of the Justice League, thank you for your time. We will form a plan and get back to you. And we will be bringing the villains we caught at the airport - the Riddler, the Joker, and Harley Quinn, when we come. Goodbye."
"Do you think you might have been to the DC universe?" Hal said to Alli, amazed. "I've never been there before!"
Steve looked at him and said, "When we return the villains, we will need all the help we can get. But for now let's leave Alli alone so she can rest."
"Bye, Alli. Keep resting, I'll be back soon." Hal waved as he walked out in a daze. Alli closed her eyes and thought about those people she had seen, The Justice League, and what she had to do with them. Slowly, she drifted off to sleep.⇜↭⇝
