Meanwhile, Lara was raging. After the talk she had with the daughter of the Bennet family, she had rushed upstairs, ignoring all the confused stares she got from her guests. She needed to talk to Jonah.
Quite out of breath, she reached her office and locked herself in. After she knew the door was secured close, Lara shut her eyes and exhaled loudly. Why did Isabelle – or so she thought her name was – know so much about the organisation that had killed her father? Was it possible that Isabelle herself did work for Trinity? Lara shook her head. She said that she came in the name of her father. But what if the business the Bennet family owned was also cooperating with Trinity?
Lara's mind was racing while she dialled Jonah's number and waited for him to pick up the phone.
'Okay, calm yourself Lara. There must be a logical explanation for all of this... Maybe she read about that mess with Trinity in one of the countless yellow press magazines that like to talk trash about me", she tried to compose herself while she wandered around the office.
"Come on Jonah, pick up... You said that you're free tonight..."
After what seemed an hour of constant ringing, the voicemail went off.
"Hey, this is Jonah! Sorry, but I'm busy with either cooking or exploring some long-lost tomb with my friend. But y'all can just leave a message at the tone, I'll be sure to call back!"
"Dammit!", Lara cursed when she heard the annoying, high-pitched tone.
"Okay, hey Jonah, I need you to call me back as soon as you hear this. It's urgent. Trinity's involved."
With that, Lara pushed the red button to end the call. Now all that was left for her, was to wait until her very reliable friend returned the call.
Sighing, Lara placed her phone on the office desk and took a sit on the old chair her father had used countless times before. She knew that she had to get back to the guests soon, but the thought of the young Bennet kept her from doing so. The majority of people still thought that her father committed suicide all those years ago, only a few of them knew the truth. Lara was afraid that someone unrelated to that case found out, and now just that had happened.
"Deep breaths Lara. I'm sure she has a reason for being that informed. The media knows about Trinity... but they don't know that they killed my father."
'But what is the reason? How am I going to find out what's going on with the Bennets?'
While the young Croft was talking to herself, and before her paranoia could kick in, she pulled out her laptop and opened it. The archaeologist had set herself on finding out as much as possible about the Bennet family while she waited for Jonah to call her back. She pulled out the little business card, Isabelle had handed her before Lara decided to leave.
"Geoffrey Bennet, CEO of... 'RE-Search'?"
'That, I can work with.'
Lara raised one eyebrow while she tapped the name into the search bar. She remembered that his daughter had mentioned the business' name beforehand, but Lara couldn't say if she was familiar with that name. It sparked something within her, but she wasn't able to tell why she felt that way.
After a few seconds the results popped up. Lara adjusted her position before she clicked on the first result, which was the official website of RE-Search.
'In it's over one hundred years of history, RE-Search has specialised itself on rediscovering the remnants of the old worlds. We believe, that ancient culture should not be buried under concrete and tar, damned to rest in eternal slumber. Join us and become part of a legacy, that will never die out.'
