'Hold On Till May'

I'll draw the shades and close the door, Everything's not alright and I would rather...-

"Thanks Abby!" I said while taking my apron off the rack. "Any time Harvey!" she called from the front of the shop. Today was my day off but I called in and asked to work. Weird right? I need the money badly. Abby had reluctantly let me come in to work. She thinks I need a break, but I tell her I'm fine. I'm always working. It helps me keep my mind off of things.

"Here you are sir." I said handing the elderly man his cup of coffee. "Thank you Harvey" he said before leaving the shop. Mr. Harris was my English professor at the local college. He was a nice old man with a big white beard and bold head. His grandson is my age and in my art class. We've dated, but both decided to stay friends. "How may I help you?" I asked the next customer.

"Bye Harvey, and actually stay at home tomorrow!" she said hugging me and leaving. Laughing I grabbed my bag and locked up the shop before walking the few blocks home. "Max!" I called out as I walked in. Hearing his nails scrape the wood floor as he raced to me. Smiling as his large frame jumped on me. "Hi boy." I said petting my large German shepherd and kissing his nose. I smiled as I fed him and went to shower.

After my showered I grabbed my school bag and began to work on my English paper. "Alright Max. Outside!" I called as I grabbed my light grey sip up jacket and his blue leash. We walked around the block to a park where I let Max rome around and play with other dogs. After a while I started walking Max home. "Finally" I sighed as I laid in my nice warm bed. Max was curled up by my feet, sound asleep. "Night max." I said before turning the light off and drifting to sleep.

"Hey Abby" I said a I walked into the coffee shop. "Leave Harvey!" she scolded. I laughed at her as I sat at a round lime green table. "I'm here to work on my English paper. Don't worry." I said while pulling my silver laptop out of my tan bag. "Whatever" she said while bringing me a hot chocolate. I knew what it was by the cup. Our coffee was in white cups, tea in clear cups, and our hot chocolate where in green cups.

The bell above the shop door brought me back to reality an hour later. Blinking rapidly to let my eyes refocus I looked at the door. A few men in business suits walked in. One had dark brown hair, one was blonde, and one had black hair. The brunet looked to be the boss. Only judging this by his suit. It looked newer and more fancy. Very expensive looking.

They made their way over to the line and waited. After a few moments I realized I was being a creep and went back to editing a video for my Media Arts class. "Harvey!" I heard Abby call out. "Yeah?" I called back not looking back at her. "I need your help!" she yelled. Sighing I closed my laptop and put it away before making my way to the lounge. Grabbing my pink apron and white hat I made my way to the front.

"Hi welcome to Groovy Cafè, what can I get for you?" I asked the blonde business man from earlier. "One ice mocha please." He said before handing me a $50. "Oh it's only $10" I said handing it back. He laughed and slid it my way. "Keep the change" he said with a wink. I blushed and rang his order up before slipping the extra $40 in my pocket. Making his mocha I handed it to him. "Thanks for coming" I said quietly. I always get this way when guys flirt. I'm so shy and I honestly hated it.

"One ice chocolate please" the black haired guy asked. "Sure. That's $10" after giving his his change and ice chocolate I smiled as the brunet stepped up. His eyes where a beautiful brown. He had a scar over his left brow. "Hi welcome to Groovy Cafè, what can I get for you?" I asked shyly. "One hot chocolate please." He said smiling at me. "That'll be $15" he swiftly slid a $100 on the table and smiled at my shocked face. "Keep the change babe." he winked and took his lime green cup from my hand.

"Wow Harvey, that's a big ass tip!" Caleb said from beside me. "Uh huh" I mumbled nodding slightly. I was a bit confused as to why they tipped me so much. Deciding not to question it I out the piney in my pocket and continued on my day. "Thank you" I said to the cute pregnant woman. She had a child already and was holding him to her chest. "I'm having a sister!" the little boy said excitedly. "Really? What's her name?" I asked him while smiling. He thought for a moment then said happily "Sophia!" I smiled as the woman laughed and walked out.

"Excuse me what's your name?" I looked up from my laptop and noticed the same brunet man as yesterday. "Oh um, it's Harvey." I said shyly. The man chuckled and sat in the seat across me. "I'm Axel." He said holding out a hand. I slowly placed my small hand in his shaking it slightly. "Nice to meet you Axel" I mumbled and quickly removed my hand from his. "Harvey is such an interesting name, why did your parents pick it?" he asked generally curious. I sighed and looked away. "It was my grandpas name." I smile at the thought of his pudgy face and round belly.

"Interesting." He mumbled before checking his phone. "Well Harvey it was nice meeting you" he said while standing up and fixing his suit. "But I must be off. I have a meeting at noon." he finished before leaving the shop. "Wow" Abby said from behind me. Scaring me with her sudden appearance. "You actually talked to him. I'm very much impressed Harvey Turner." She said while sitting down. I rolled my eyes at her use of my last name. "Oh shush you! he's just a guy" I said while cleaning up my things. "Yeah. A sexy guy, with even sexier friends!"

I laughed as Abby and I exited the only night club the town had. Full Moon was the name, and it was very hard to get into. Abby got us in because her brother, Hank, was the bouncer tonight. He was a big guy, about 6'7, a lot of muscles. It was weird seeing him in black, standing so serious. He's usually in a bright funky shirt and laughing about nothing. I guess everyone changes for their job. "And then I said 'no Hank! its not that kind of toy!'" Abby said laughing.

She was telling me about the time Hank slept over when she was 19 and he was 17. She had just got her first place alone and her best friend, at the time, got her a gag gift. Lets just say Hank never stayed again. "Wow Abby. How did he even find it?" I asked as I walked her home. "I don't know! I think he was helping me unpack or something" she said dismissively. "Here you go" I said as we reached her cute one story home. "Thanks Harvey" She said while walking inside.

Sighing I took my heels off and began my walk home. My apartment wasn't anything to brag about. We had a doorman, Leo, a nice maid, Aron, and a pet sitter, Carry, she was a cute little 17 year old girl. Her father owned the building and let her have her own place there. It's only them so he didn't mind much. She watches Max for me when I go out and while I'm at work or school. "Thanks Carry!" I called as I walked Max to my apartment. "Have a good night miss?" Aron asked as she pushed her maid cart around the halls. "Yes, thank you" I called after her.

"Alright Max. Time to eat" I said as I made him a bowl of dog food and then myself some cereal. Sitting at the island I sighed. "How was your day?" I asked Max. He just looked up at me and barked. "Yeah. Same here. " I said before finishing my bowl. "Bed time Max!" I called from my bedroom after I dressed for bed. He came running in and jumped in his usual spot on the bed. "Good boy" I said kissing his nose. He licked my cheek and fixed himself in a curled up position.

After reading for a good hour I sighed and turned the light off. "Night Max" I said before laying down and trying to sleep. It didn't come quickly and it didn't happen smoothly. I had a few nightmares that night. I haven't had them in a while. They kept me awake most of the night. 'I need to talk to Dr. Stevens tomorrow' I thought before finally getting a peaceful dreamless sleep.
