CHAPTER ONE,
huang areum
LOUD BEEPS invaded the girl's still sleepy mind. Her long hair fell off her shoulder as she rolled over to the right side of the bed, slamming her hand angrily against the demon machine sitting at the side of her rustic cabinet. The girl groaned in pure annoyance, burying her face back into the soft white pillow. She sighed as she stood in front of the floor-length mirror, tying the neck of her white blouse carefully. She was dressed in said blouse, tucked into a short black and white chequered pencil skirt, and paired with a baby pink faux fur coat laid across her frame.
Carefully scanning herself in the mirror one last time, she grabbed her phone from the dressing table across from her and skipped out of the room excitedly. She found herself descending the grand staircase, where her butler, Yu Tian, was waiting for the girl's arrival.
Yu Tian was a middle-aged man, with long jet black hair slicked back to the bottom of his nape, and slightly noticeable red bags under his beady eyes. He wore a formal black suit, accentuated with a blood-red handkerchief tucked into his pocket.
He was one of the Huang family's most trusted staff, so he was assigned to take care of the youngest daughter of the Huang's.
"You looked tired, Yu Tian." The brunette spoke in a gentle, worrisome voice. She had always trusted the man, whether it be due to her family's approval of him, or pure gut instinct, she would put her life in his protection.
"I would say the same to you, Miss. Huang, but your parents would probably fire me."
A small smile formed on the man's mature face, bowing deeply to Miss. Ling. He handed her the small YSL purse he had been holding, as she smiled gratefully at the man.

Areum Huang's black heels clicked as she stepped across the textile floor of her parent's dining room, approaching her family sitting at the grand banquet table. She stepped into her mother's view, kissing her on the cheek gently.
"Not staying for breakfast, darling?"
Huang Fanzhei was a kind woman. Her black hair was chopped to just above her shoulder and straightened into a shaped bob cut. The woman was what could be defined as 'the perfect wife'. She hit every beauty standard you could think of. Porcelain white skin, free of blemishes (though maybe slightly worn by age), a small nose, perfectly shaped thin lips, and a caring mother to her three children.
"I can just get something on my way to school, so I'm not late."
"Okay sweetheart, but don't forget to drop off your brother's lunch when you get to school." The woman flashed her perfect smile as she viewed her only daughter kiss her husband softly on the cheek.
Huang Minghao was the opposite of his wife. His dark chestnut hair fell in a flop of carefully gelled curls on top of his head, not long enough to cover his steely black eyes. His cold gaze was enough to terrify any work rival that dared to cross him, and this was what made him one of the most powerful men in Asia.
Areum said goodbye to her parents and jumped into her red Audi R8 Spyder that was parked next to the empty space her brother, Yifen's Ferrari would usually be. Yifen had left early that morning, presumably to go and hook up with some junior before school starts. Areum's other brother, Fan, was at practice for the school's swimming team.
She checked herself in the rearview mirror as she slipped on a pair of block black sunglasses that were left in the glove compartment. Areum looked okay. Not the best she'd ever looked but she could make do. Her hair, which she had carelessly left in a mess of curls flowing to her mid-back, blew out of her face as she sped down the motorway with her roof down, a small smile on her face.
Areum eventually made it to school with enough time to drop in and find Fan. It was half an hour before school started and the car park was already half full of teenagers smoking weed on the in the backs of their cars. Personally, the smell revolted Areum and made her feel nauseous. She had never tried weed. It was the first day of school and she supposed some people needed a bit of motivation to make it through the day, she didn't blame them.
The swimming pool wasn't too busy, Fan and his co-captain were standing at one end of the pool observing the assortment of boys that had come to try out for the team. Tryouts had started at 7 am this morning and it was currently 7:35 am, Fan already looked fed up.
Fan's eyes lit up when he spotted his little sister standing awkwardly at the other side of the pool. He smiled and waved her over to him. The girl smiled back and awkwardly shuffled past all the half-naked boys dressed only in super tight swimming shorts. She tried to avoid contact with any of them as she mumbled choruses of sorry over and over again.
Eventually, Areum made it to Fan and she let out a breath of relief as she went to give him his lunch.
"Areum! Come on, you know I thought that as the national champions we wouldn't have room for any new members but I was very wrong. You have to meet the new guy!"
"Fan, I'm going to be late to-" That wasn't actually true, she still had about twenty minutes before class started, but Fan blanked her anyway and turned around to shout at a group of boys crowding around someone.
"Yah, new kid! Come here!"
Areum raised an eyebrow at her brother. She had never seen him this excited at the prospect of a new member on his national-winning team. The freshmen parted like the red sea to allow 'new kid' to reach my brother.
Fan slung his heavy arm over my shoulder and fist-bumped the boy that stood in front of us.
"Areum, this is Kim Jongin, the newest member of the Sea Lions."
