Annie felt safer with Sam in her dreamscape every night. He taught her how to control the place by wrapping her 'self' around the idea of a place. She always put herself in bright and warm places, and Sam would always appear next to her moments later.
A key part to the dreamscape realm is that it's an alternate dimension that anyone can create. However, most people pass straight through their dreamscape, missing it entirely. They simply fall asleep in their beds, pass into their dreamscape, and then fall asleep in one sift motion. But since there were demons in Annie's, she kept getting stuck there. With no actual sleep.
Sam would let her sleep in the dreamscape, and she began to trust him to protect her while they were there.
"You know, you could put us in like, a bedroom." Sam mumbled one night.
She looked around at the sunset-soaked beach they were standing on, "you've got a problem with the coast?"
He smirked, "no, but you've got a problem with being alone with me in a bedroom."
She rolled her eyes, turning away from him to hide the redness of her face, "not true. Why would I put us in my boring room when I can go anywhere?"
She heard him laugh, "I guess you're right. But aren't you waking up with back pains?"
She shrugged. She had been. And he was right. She was terrified of being alone with him in her room. While he was slowly gaining more and more trust from her, he was really a demon. She was also terrified of Emmett finding and lurking through her home in the real world. So she put them all far away, in places that her family had vacationed years ago. Tonight, they were in Rhode Island.
She laid down in the sand at one of the only beaches in the area and her body felt warm against the sun-soaked golden sand, and he hovered over her. He blocked out the falling sun as he looked down at her.
"You must not be getting any sleep." She murmured, looking up at him.
His face was shadowed from the sunset as he leaned, and his hair was shaggy, landing in his face in a dirty blonde mess along his forehead.
He grinned widely, showing her his perfect teeth, "I don't really need it. Sleep is cool and all but it doesn't drain me at all to skip it."
She groaned, "of course it doesn't."
"But you need it, so" he snapped his fingers, "get to sleep."

When Annie woke up the next morning, her neck hurt like a bitch. But the sun was shining through her bedroom window and she felt an odd source of calm. That was, before she noticed the chirping alarm, alerting her that it had begun ringing almost an hour earlier.
"Oh my god," she yelled, rushing out of bed.
She threw on a sweatshirt and leggings and managed to get to class while there were still a few parking spots in the far back of one of the farthest lots. She hiked her bag over her shoulder as she slammed the door shut, and turned around heading towards the main entrance.
She was grabbed gently by the arm about half way to the door. She turned around with a gasp, her eyes landing on Sam. His face was covered in cuts and bruises, and his skin was yellowing in intense splotches like someone had used their fists as paint brushes and Sam's face as the canvas. His hair was disheveled and his eyes were panicked.
"Are you okay?" He asked frantically.
Her eyebrows scrunched in concern, "am I okay? Are you okay? What happened?"
His face dropped in relief, "god, you didn't wake up? Emmett and two others ambushed me. I held them off but wasn't sure if he had even more people."
