She was now nine.

Life was going it's usual way.

Only difference now was that she was in school.

Old lady Mrs. Stanley's daughter works for the school board and managed to get her in.

She was in the sixth grade.

She passed a test and was moved up ahead.

Make something of yourself. You're a smart, young lady.

She wished Mrs. Stanley could be her mom. She always took care of her.

Does that mean she loves her?

She always tell her she do.

Well, daddy doesn't know she go to school.

He thinks that she's at Mrs. Stanley house.

When school lets out, she find her outside, leaning on her cane, waiting for her.

They walk back to the apartments together where she stay over, do homework and talk to her about her day.

She's a great woman.

She tells her stories about her life.

Her husband died in war when she was twenty-eight, her daughter grew up fatherless.

They use to scrap for money, when her daughter graduated from high school, she left Mrs. Stanley home without notice.

She barely picks up Mrs. Stanley's phone calls.

She cried alittle as she told the story.

It broke her heart seeing Mrs. Stanley cry.

When I grow up, I'll take care of you. She tells Mrs. Stanley.

I'll never leave you.
